What can a person do to ease the discomfort? Besides boosting up your fiber. Also, I find my morning "doodles" are far too loose. Should I up my fiver? I eat all bran in the morning with a fiber herbal capsule after dinner. I cut the fiber pill from two down to one. Anyways, I find my rectum in discomfort all day except when I lie down or go to sleep. The longer I stand, the worse it gets...

Your subject title says prolapsed rectum.......have you considered having this taken care of surgically? If you truely do have a prolapsed rectum then you should consider having this fixed surgically. Fiber is great for anyone with bowel problems so yes go ahead and use it. Also are you able to manually put the prolapsed rectum back in without to much discomfort and how often does your prolapse fall out?

I don't know what I have. I just have a feeling of heaviness in the rectum area, my age considering, I probably have some type of prolapse with the vagina and rectum area. I'm trying Keigal exercises right now. Anything. I see my doc next week for the usual pap and will ask questions. Penny on this board had some questions about this concern for women in general and I too have quesions because this does concern our bowels.

When you have a prolapsed bowel or rectum that refers to your rectum quite literally hanging outside of your anus. It is usually reducible manually and since this is not what you indicate happens then I doubt it is a rectal prolapse or a vaginal prolapse since you don't indicate that either of these two are have been felt or seen.

Hi, oh, is that what a prolapse is? No, nothing is hanging out of either end, just a feeling of heaviness, especially when I finish having a bowel movement. Gosh, I get so scared all the time wondering what is going on? I have so much anxiety, I wonder if the muscles in the rectum are tense and acting up?

Dear Fiber: Just wanted to add to the comments on this subject.

There are actually three different types of rectal prolapse -- external, mucosal, and internal (or intussusception). It IS possible to have rectal prolapse that does not exit your body.

In addition, the feeling of heaviness you describe could be due to rectocele and/or perineal descent. You may want to consider getting checked by either a urogynecologist or a colorectal. If you DO have any of the above conditions, they shouldn't be ignored.
