Sorry, if this has been answered before. But I would like the input of senior members and all others on this topic. I seem to be getting dark brown stool each time I have a bowel movement. Used to be that when I didnt have a bowel movement for a day or two, stool color( for the first couple of pieces) would be dark brown followed by lighter brown color stool. I do have constiptaion frequently. However for the past several days I have started taking metamucil 3 times a day. While this gets me bowel movement almost daily but the color of stool is dark brown each time. I have however also( on one or two occasion) seen a light brown color piece towards the end. Question: Does metamucil affect the coloring of the stool? Also, if of any help. whenever I take lexative, I will have real good bowel movement, initial piece being dark brown but the rest would be Light brown which is more in line with what used to be normal color for me. Is dark brown color of any concern? Pls help Also, if I add prune juice to my diet( in future), would this make the stool darker? Many thanks in advance. IP: Logged |

Dark brown is the normal color of stool so you have nothing to worry about unless you have black or tarry stools. Skip the laxatives and continue with the fiber therapy that you are already doing. Prune juice shouldn't cause a dramatic change in your stool color and as already stated dark brown is a normal stool color. IP: Logged |
