I have had (2) lumps on my neck for about 3 years. I had been to (3) doctors who all told me not to worry about them. None of them ever performed any tests. I finally found a doctor who would listen to me last month. I had a sonogram, which suggested they were lymph nodes. I then had a CT scan with contrast---it was confirmed that they are lymph nodes---only with the CT scan, they noticed upwards of (20) swollen nodes. On Thursday I am to go for an MRI, which will be followed by a biopsy.

I am especially concerned, as less that a year ago I lost me Dad to lymphoma....

I suppose my point is----have it checked. If it is nothing, then you will feel better knowing that.

thanks for the reply....
today I went to the ( otorino....) ear and nose doctor...he checked me out and came to the conclusion that it is no indeed a swollen lymph node in my neck. he said that it is a muscle.
he said bone structures beside your adams apple have muscle, and sometimes it develops a round form that feels like a node,..and by touching it I can cause more inflamation. but in fact the round thing I feel is infact part of a muscle.
Have anybody heard of anything like this????????
any comments please!!!!!!!!

I have never heard of that (NOT to say he's wrong---I'm not a doctor).

If you're skeptical or still concerned, get a second opinion. Better yet, ask for some sort of testing---for example a CT scan. My lymph nodes had me concerned for a long time---one doc said they were nodes, but that they were not abnormal, another told me they were sebacious cysts. I have always been uneasy not knowing for sure. As I said, I'm now having testing done, and while I'm sure I'm fine, I'll feel better after diagnostic tests. I find it hard to believe that a definitive diagnosis can be made simply by feeling it.

Follow your intuition...if you're comfortable & confident with what he told you, just keep an eye on it. If you're still at all concerned, go for another opinion. Don't concern yourself with feeling "paranoid", or that you're a hypochondriac---this is your health you're talking about. And if you don't take care of yourself, who will?

hi i am going through the same thing. I have swollen
lymph node for over 2 months now. I had blood tests a
sonogram and a cat scan. they said it is a swollen gland but it doesn't go away. Did you have any tests on it. I am very interested to find out this could be a muscle too. Where is your doctor. Did he rule out that it was a swollen node? Please reply. I have had it with this lump. P.S.
Did you get a stiffness in your neck? Did you feel like there was a lotof tension on that side. Like a nerve ball.

hi, I was wondering what ever happened when you did the biopsy on the nodes. I had a cat scan but no biopsy. What was the conclusion? Are they harmless cysts or do the nodes just stay swollen forever. I am so upset about this that everyone thinks I am a hypochondriac but the lump is still there. How are you doing now. Its two months later?

Went to the lymphoma specialist again a few days ago...ran more tests...lots of bloodwork. Doesn't believe the nodes are malignant, but says there must be a reason they are so enlarged, and have been for so long. He is thinking possibly a virus???

I have had stiffness and that swollen look on one side of my neck, and collarbone for 4 yrs now. After multiple doctors and tons of tests all coming back normal. I was diagnosed with Thoracic outlet syndrome. A stretch injury to the brachial plexus which causes compression and tightness in the neck region. Basically it's a build up of scar tissue in the neck region, which compresses nerves and causes pain and spasms in the neck, shoulder, collarbone, armpit, elbow, and pinky finger. Those of you worried about cancer, but have had every test come back normal, might want to check out this website. www.tellmeabouttos.com .

I was recommended by my dr. to see a specialist for a lump in my stomack and swollen lymph nodes. I have swollen nodes on my neck, under my arms and in my bikini line area, Lots of them. I've had them for as long as I can remember. I was sent for blood tests and catscans. My blood tests came out negative for leukemia & lymphoma. The cat scan didn't show anything of concern. The oncologist I went to said that I should keep an eye on them and make sure they don't increase in size or begin to hurt. I have not been back to see him since Feb. I worry all the time and am going back for another check up soon.

If you're worrying that much find a surgeon who will perform a biopsy of one of your nodes. That will definately confirm. The oncologist didn't feel a need for me to go through that right now.

I hope all works out for you.

I have 2 lymph nodes swollen, found them 9 months ago, they are painless and hard, bloodwork came back with elevated white blood cell count, am going for biopsy tomorrow. The first ENT dr I went to blew me offf said they were just nodes, I wasn't happy with that so went to diff dr and she said they were too hard to be reg nodes and wants biopsy. Find a Dr till you are confident they know what they are.
