I recently found a lump in my neck, towards the back, just below the hairline, along that muscle that seems to run up either side of the neck. Does anyone know what this could be? I've been worrying. It isn't painful, and I haven't had any infections lately. It does seem hard, maybe firm is the right word. I'm hoping it's a cyst, but I heard they can be easily moved under the skin. Whatever it is is not easily moved, but I can seem to "grab" it with a few fingers and almost lift it around, and move it just a bit (it seems like it is either attached to the muscle, or maybe skin, it's hard to tell in that area.

Any idea what this could be? I'm worrying since all I've read is that if it doesn't move easily, it's problems. Can a cyst grow off the muscle or skin? Or can anyone give me any advice? I've been having neurological problems for about a year (burning sensations, muscle twitches, headaches), but I had bloodwork done, as well as MRIs on my neck and head in the past year and everything turned out to be ok. Thank you for any advice you can give.

well it seems as though the doctors have started tests and the negative results are reassuring. The problems you have experienced over the last year could simply be due to this 'object' pushing on nerves. If they hven't already done it, I would request a CAT scan for more peice of mind. And I wouldn't worry about the 'movable/not movable' test....too many possiblities to fit into such tight perameters. Try not to worry but keep at it...don't stop looking until you are satisfied with the doctor's answers...if you have a gut feeling otherwise...you should go forward with it.

Well the thing is those tests were done well before I had this lump. I think I had bloodwork done around a year ago, my neck MRI around 8 months ago, and my head MRI around December. So I guess that's somewhat reassuring, that if it is something serious that it must have just developed recently so hopefully not very far along. But I do plan on visiting a doctor, probably will wait a bit though, maybe a week, and probably will end up asking them at least to do some more bloodwork (and maybe a biopsy) if they don't suggest doing it themselves. Thanks for your reply!
