Last Saturday my son was playing basketball and as he went up for a shot, hs friend tried to block ball and hit his thumb, very hard....it immediately started to swell...he said he heard a pop...we went to er and they x-rayed and said it was sprained....went to doctor 3 days later because it wasn't any better...he x-rayed, and said it was broken near the growth plate and needed to be fixed. He suggested that he go in (under anesthesia) and manipulate thumb in place and see if it holds...put on a cast...but if it doesn't hold, then he will need to put a pin in it. Doc says it won't take 30 minutes for the procedure...and my son's thumb will then grow correctly...wich is fine with us...

My son is 12 and is a pitcher for his baseball team (dreams of pro ball) and he is so upset about all this. The coach called tonight and said that he made the "all stars" and we were just so happy. But my question is has anyone been thru this type surgery and what was the outcome. We want his little thumb to be perfect of course...but what can we expect after all this?? Thanks for any replies...my son is very nervous about the surgery....
