Hi, I need information on Erbium laser for acne scars if anyone has had them done, also how soon after a subcission or undermining treatment can I have this done, is one week okay, or should I wait two weeks. My dermatologist told me with the erbium laser I can have it done on Friday and can return to work on Monday, he indicates he will not go that deep into the skin, also he mentioned it would cost $5500, is that a reasonable price. He mentioned with this laser, there is not much recovery time, and it is better for people with darker skin. I am from venezuela, so my skin color is more of a beige color. Can anyone help mew please before I make a decision or give me some advice, also how long does the redness and swelling last? thank you so much

I talked to a plastic surgeon about this. Seriously, I was told that I would probably want to cover my head with a paper bag. I wanted to know what I would look like during recovery and I was told that I would have crusting and swelling. I think you should get a couple of professional opinions. I see that you live in New York and that alone could be why the cost is more than my area. I have seen several doctors and the most expensive estimate was $4,000. I am in the New Orleans area. I must wait for another year or so before I can have it done because I took Accutane at the end of last year.

Annabelle,

Please see my post under acne and red marks on the Acne board.

I hope you won't waste your money. There are now newer and cheaper alternatives to Erbium (which can only improve your scars by 30%).
Thanks.

I have been chatting with AnnabelleC. I told her to go to the Acne section and look up the "red marks & acne" heading. I told her to look at your pictures and read your story because your skin looks great. I may try the microdermabrasion. I had the light laser done last week. I plan to have it done again in about 3-4 months.

Hi guys, thank you so much for the information. You may just save me a lot of money. I have been told by so many that microdermabrasion will not do anything, but after seeing your pictures and speaking to a few other doctors that perform the procedure, I think it may work for me. I have very shallow and a few moderate scars, I am not looking for perfection, just a big improvement and if I could do that at a much cheaper rate and see improvements, I am willing to give it a try, also anyone tried mederma with success, I am thinking of using this with my microdermabrasion sessions, I have my first session tomorrow.
Thanks so much guys, I will let you know of my results after a few sessions.

Phil,

I can't find your post on microdermabrasion. [removed]

Thanks!
