Hi, Has anyone had regular dermabrasion(not micro) for scars? Did it work? Are you happy with the results? How much did it cost? Also, I'm thinking about having collagen or fat injections to fill in some scars...has anyone done that? If so, were you happy with it? ~*or*~ What have you usrd for scars that was helpful, if anything? IP: Logged |

I had fat injections last May and it did fill in the acne scars, but your body will reabsorb the fat and you have to have the procedure done again. As a matter of fact I am going to have my second set of injections next week. If you do it you will be bruised and lumpy for a few days. I hope you have some fat on your belly. My doctor had to keep on digging to get enough fat to do my face (1 Tablespoon). ------------------ IP: Logged |

Hi, Thanks for responding YES, I have enough fat on my stomach I like the idea of using my own fat, so my body doesn't have a reaction to it.Also, in a way, it is good that it's not permanent, because if it looks worse it will only be temporary. Unfortunately, that is not the case with lasers nad dermabrasion. If it makes the scars worse it's permanent Peace IP: Logged |

Emmanuel, Hi, I had my second set of fat injections yesterday. It took about an hour. I took a sedative before I went to the office. The procedure is really no big deal, but I think it helps if you can relax. This is the way it goes... first they clean your face & belly, then they inject lidocaine into your belly and face. The lidocaine injections just sting a little but are really not bad. Then they make a tiny incision (the first time they made it in my navel and sucked fat from below, this time they made it really low and took fat from above)and then suck the fat out with a syringe. They then put the "stuff" that they sucked out of your belly in a centrifuge to seperate the fat and fluids. Then they start injecting it into your face. The worst part of it is if they hit a live spot in your belly while sucking the fat out. Obviously I had good results the first time or I wouldn't have done it again. I'll let you know how this one turns out in a few weeks after most of the really bad swelling goes down. IP: Logged |

Good Luck! I hope your results are good. I'll say a prayer for you. It doesn't sound too bad. What kind of scars did you use it for? How much did it cost you? Definately let me know how it comes out. ------------------ Peace ~*Emma*~ IP: Logged |

Also, how long did the results last? How long were you lumpy and bruised for? How long after the procedure did it start to look better? What percentage better do you think it made your face (ie: scars looked 50% better or 75% better?) How many weeks or months after your first procedure did you start to notice the scars reappearing? And when (how many weeks or months after your first procedure) did you decide to get your 2nd procedure done? The reabsorption rate of fat is 50% from what I was told, so that if you get it done enough times, you should end up with pretty good results that are long lasting. ------------------ Thoughts don't make us who we are -- Actions do. I had the injections for pitted acne scars. I'd say I had about a 40 to 50% improvement. The bruising lasted for about 10 days and I still have a little swelling. I went for a follow up last week and had to get a cortisone shot in one of the lumps. I thought it was just a really big wad of fat, but it turns out that it was a bruise! I feel like I have had really good results, but I'll know more in a few months when the reabsorption process has had enough time. You asked how much it cost and I think my doc is giving me a great deal $400.00.....you can barely get a day at a spa for that. Good luck if you decide to do it. IP: Logged |

I'm sorry to hear about the bruise. I hope it turns out okay.Do you know if this is a common reaction? Can it cause scarring. 50% is good; I'd be happy with that. It's not that expensive either (I was just about to spend 1000's on dermabrasion). I read somewhere that it can be permanent after repeated injections. It lasts a fairly long time too. Anyway, ty for the update, hope you recover well, and we're here if you need to talk. ------------------ Peace ~*Emma*~ IP: Logged |

Hey Bellydancer, How long did the first fat injections from May last? Very interested!! Hope it turns out fabulously for you. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. Jenfen IP: Logged |

Jenfen, The injectons from May never completely reabsorbed...about 50% of it did. It took about 4 to 5 months for that amount to reabsorb. When you get injected it is cumulative(sp?). I mentioned the lump in my last post, well I had to go back for a second cortisone shot today. Other than that stubborn spot I am really excited about my results. I have always felt like my scars are the first thing people notice about me, but now I don't think so. I feel great. IP: Logged |

Hi, I have had many fat transfer to my face (about 5) from my body. Overall, I am happy, but it is a process and it can be unpredicatable. One thing I would definitely not suggest is fat transfer to the forehead. In my case, it's bumpy, and I still it have it on my "to do" list to resolve the issue. The fat does stay if you keep filling the area, however, you don't want an overcorrection. You need to go to someone very experienced. Viv IP: Logged |

Fat transfer for me was a one day surgery. But, I had abdomen fat removed, purified(centorfuge) and injected into cheekbones, nasal labial folds, marionette folds on chin and into my lips.. Lips look great, but the eye area above cheeks is soooo!!! swolen and bumpy. And I am thinking the doctor over inflated me on purpose to over compensate for that 30-50 % loss.. IP: Logged |

Is it possible for the fat to reabsorbe unevenly and leave a bumpy surface? I want to have this procedure done under my eye's but I am worried about a uneven area being left. And if that happens how can they correct it? Thanks for any advise! IP: Logged |

Marionette folds are the wrinkles, folds, pock marks , dents, below your sides of your mouth/ lower lip- downward to your chin. These are commonly fixed with fat transfer along with the nasal labial which are the smile lines from mouth upward torwards cheeks.. I had them both taken care of at once and added the Laura Croft Lips(Angelina Jolie)!! and contoured the cheeks.. still healing.. But the fat transfer is safe.. painless with general anesthesia and works very! well for filling in lines, wrinkles, scars.. IP: Logged |

So, I guess it's fine for the chin then. That's my problem area. How much does it cost(fat transfer)? Does it hurt? I love A. Jolie...she's a goddess. IP: Logged |

I Live in your area and am interested in finding a doctor who will do this kind of work, I have ice pick scarring. I have been to one that did not like to use fillers so he told me there was nothing he could do except chemical peel. quote: IP: Logged |

Sorry, I think I might have messed that last message up, I was so excited to hear about someone in my situation getting help. I was responding to Belly Dancers discussion on the fillers and that she had found a doctor in our area that would do this. I would really love to know who helped her out. I have been searching forever for help with my acne scars. IP: Logged |

Viv(or anyone else), If you're still around, how can you tell if someone is experienced in fat transfer, I mean, they can just say they are. I'm really interested in getting this done. IP: Logged |

I have had dermabrasion done twice and I am THRILLED with the results. I am going for my third and final one in November. I still have some minor traces of scars. My scars were pretty deep and I just felt so self conscious. Now I feel and look great IP: Logged |

Hi Beanies ![]() You had regular dermabrason, not micro?! I almost had that done. Did you have your entire face done? Did it hurt? What percentage would you say your results are, and how come you had to have more than one procedure done? You said your scars were deep, were they saucer, icepick--both? I'm sorry for all of the questions, but I'm really getting ready to do something about my scars and I'd appreciate your help! Finally, congratulations! I am well aware how scars can hurt emotionally, so I'm glad for you. Good luck in November. ~Emma [This message has been edited by EMMANUEL (edited 07-08-2003).] IP: Logged |

Hello, I had my whole face done, the first one was 8 years ago. It got rid of about 70% of the scars. I was so amazed. The only real downfall with the surgery was that I had a red face for about 6 months. People kept asking me if I was burnt in a fire. My scars were horrible, small and big you name it I had it. The first dermabrasion was quite painful for the first 3 days. Then after that it was just a tight feeling. I chose to have the second one done because I still had some scarring that bothered me on my cheeks. This one was not painful at all and made some of the deeper scars lot alot better. I am having the third one done to just smooth the skin and hopefully I won't have to wear fondation any more. The best thing if your going to have this done is to make sure you smother your face in polysporin about every 3 hours. I did this and my surgeon said this sure helped the healing. People have asked me if I would do it all over again and YES I would. The first 3 or 4 days everything you eat has to go through a straw because your cheeks will be swollen. Good Luck to you, and if you need to know anything else let me know. Take Care Bridgette IP: Logged |

Can anyone explain the difference between dermabrasion and microdermabrasion?? I'm assuming it's just the extent to which it's done.. Does microdermabrasion help at all with acne scarring like derm does?? How much difference is there in cost? Thanks for all the great info so far. IP: Logged |
