What is a photofacial treatment? I am interested in having the redness reduced from my face, without alot of downtime. IP: Logged |

roxy, you're talking about IPLs, right? Photorejuvenation with the intense pulsed light? I just had my first one last week on my face and neck and at first I looked like a war zone on my neck but I think my skin looks a little smoother. Really. I did it for sun damage. I'm going for the 3 to 5 treatments they recommend and will include my hands next time. Can you tell me what you think of your treatment? Are you going again? Did you notice a difference in your skin's texture? IP: Logged |

Just a word of CAUTION! If it is indeed lupus, an autoimmune disorder, you should avoid laser treatments. My brother works for a board certified plastic surgery center & when I recently consulted there for IPL treatments for sunspots, I was told since I have systemic lupus, they will not treat anyone with autoimmune disorders or connective tissue diseases with lasers. I'm now looking into microdermabrasion as an alternative treatment. Best wishes! [This message has been edited by Careyanne (edited 02-04-2003).] IP: Logged |

Thanks for the info Careyann. I have a mild case of Lupus so I am lucky that way. I don't have the discoid skin problems that can occur but I can have rashes. My family doctor thinks the redness to my face is rosacea with the tiny spider veins present. I did read one site about Photofacial that said not to do it if you have Lupus but I didn't know if that meant Discoid Lupus or SLE too. One dermatologist in my town when I e-mailed the question to his office said he didn't know of any reason why people with Lupus couldn't have it done. I could find no other restrictions for Lupus on any other sites other than that one site. But now you brought it up again so it makes me more concerned than ever. No way do I want my Lupus to flare up again!!!! Not every Dr can know about everything so it sounds like it would not be too good an idea for me to try. I wouldn't want to have it done and then hear the Dr. say " Gee, that never happened to any of my other Patients!" DUH! ------------------ IP: Logged |
