You mean the Dr. David Morrow who practices at the Eisenhower Center in Rancho Mirage? He isn't a real plastic surgeon. He trained in psychiatry and dermatology and is only board certified in dermatology, not plastic surgery. The California Medical Board web site lists Dr. Morrow as having a malpractice award against him not long ago, so you might want to check him out more carefully . He's probably great with collajen and botox. But for surgery on your face?

BonnieC:

If you are thinking of having a facelift, you need a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon. It is also good if they are Fellows of the American College of Surgeons
(FACS). The most important thing is that you go to
a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon.

It is the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
that certifies Plastic Surgeons, Dermatologists, etc.
These are the rigorous boards that medical students
must pass to become credentialed in their respective
fields. You want to go to someone who is ABMS-certified in Plastic Surgery.
You DO NOT want to go to some who is ABMS-certified in Dermatology.

Only Board-Certified Plastic Surgeons are allowed
to use the plastic surgery symbol. It is something
resembling two half circles.

Board-Certified COSMETIC Surgeons are not the same
as Board-Certified Plastic Surgeons, so don't be
fooled. And, particularly, don't be fooled by the
Morrow Institute using a trademark with the words,
"plastic surgery" in it.

Board-certified Cosmetic Surgeons are certified
by the American Board of Cosmetic Surgeons. They
are plain and simply dermatologists who have set
up their own board.

There is also a group called the American Board of
Facial Plastic Surgery. Again, this is not the
board certification of the ABMS. Most of the
doctors in this group are Otolaryngologists (Head
and Neck doctors), but you have to be very careful
if you were to pick a doctor from this group.

This group (The Facial Plastic Surgery Group) is
now allowing dermatologists to become members.
Also, their website is very misleading because
there are two types of people who belong to this
group: Fellows and Members. Fellows, who are also
ABMS-certified in Head and Neck are probably
qualified to do facelifts. Dermatologists can
become "Members" and you do not want a dermatologist
doing a facelift on you.

You can go into surgery.org and this is how to find
an aesthetic plastic surgeon. All of the doctors
on this website will be board-certified plastic
surgeons.

You can go to the American Board of Medical Specialties
website. They will assign you a password and you
can always look up the true credential of a doctor.

Another good credential to look for is Fellow,
American College of Surgeons (FACS). Go to their
website and they also have a "search this page"
function at the bottom where you can search for a
plastic surgeon who is also a FACS.

Good luck to you.

bonniec, You were very luck to find out that Dr. Morrow is a Dermatologist. I clearly get the impression that you thought he was a Plastic Surgeon.

If you believe his website or yellow pages advertising is deceptive or misleading, you should file a complaint with the California Medical Board. You can get the form on-line. Download his webpages before you file the complaint and save them.

Doctor are not allowed to engage in deceptive or misleading advertising.

Did you go to the California Medical Board website. There is a malpractice arbitration award shown for his name.

this is very interesting. this same Dr. Morrow has an article in an online magazine called InMagazine on cosmetic surgery. in it, he talks about the "dumbing down" of plastic surgery by unqualified docs. this from a dermatologist who does face lifts. huh?

I read the article and was really surprised. How can Dr. Morrow put down other surgeons who have qualifcations way stronger than him? Or is the really just some sort of advertising?
