I have been taking Celexa for a couple of mos now. I haven't previously taken any medication. I started at 20 mgs, went to 40, but am now back to 20. I am 5'9" and have lost about 15-20 lbs (from 165+ to 144). Is this normal? I think that I have a decreased appetite, but I also think that maybe I am feeling better and was previously eating a lot as a symptom of depression. Is this normal? Should I be concerned about the weight loss? Thanks in advance.

Hi Oxford

This might not be helpful for you, but Geez I wouldn't mind a little weight loss at the moment. I might see about Celexa for myself. I was on Efexor and gained 20kg (50 odd pounds) in just a few months. Do you have any other side effects with Celexa?

On the serious side though, if it does concern you, talk to your Doctor. If you have had a history of Anorexia it may be important to have this checked out.

All the best

The only other side effects I've had were sleepiness (this seemed to wear off though, either at the lower dosage or just passage of time) and dizzyness initially (also worn off, and the fact that its been 110 degrees here in the shade I am sure wasn't helping!). No history of anorexia or any other eating disorders..unless sitting in front of the TV for days on end eating macaroni & cheese and whole boxes of sugar wafer cookies counts...lol (not funny actually)

I told my dr. at one point that I thought the whole anti-depressive nature of Celexa might be that everyone loses 10-20 lbs and feels better (my warped sense of humor here). In all seriousness though, I was curious if anyone else had experienced any weight loss, how much, and how long until the effect stopped (some people say they put weight back on after a while)

Thanks again all.
