Which would you prefer? I am on Prozac and heard a lot of good news about Wellbutrin and I am wondering if that would be a better med. for me than Prozac.

I take Wellbutrin and I have had great success with it. It has done the trick for my depression issues and it didn't cause me to gain weight. ( I actually lost a little...)

Talk to your doctor....can't hurt.

Hey OHMYF

Hey OHMYFACE.

Thanks for your input. I'll have to ask my Dr. about switching. I don't know if I need to up my dosage or if I need something stronger because I'm used to what I am on now. Thanks again for your input.

Personally, for me, I wouldnt take one without the other. I have taken both Prozac and Wellbutrin together and because they work on different I know my body reacts so weird if I take one and not the other. When I took just Prozac, I had no energy. When I took Wellbutrin alone it made me edgy because it mainly works on Dopamaine, which gives us energy. Anyway, thats just my two cents. good luck..

I take Wellbutrin and Zoloft and Wellbutrin by itself was taking my head back to the 70's do to the part of the brain it works on, the Zoloft balanced it out but Zoloft by it self for me at least gave me bad dreams

Wellbutrin is awesome in my opinion. But it is the only AD I have ever tried. I've been on and off of it with very little symptoms of withdrawal. The first time I was on it it changed my whole outlook on life - I was very happy and lost 50 pounds within 6-7 months. It was awesome. I went off of it after awhile thinking I was over the depression. The symptoms of depression recurred after a few months. After starting it again, the positive effects weren't as strong as the first time but it did help. Only thing was I seemed to have developed a "tolerance" for it, perhaps I need to up the dosage. But I recommend it highly.

I hated Zoloft because of the side effects. Wellbutrin worked much better for me. Remember, however, that we all react differently.

My first antidepressant was prozac. I was on it for a year until I realized I was having side effects. I thought it was the depression. I was nasty to people and I could not have an orgasm.

I just went off of Wellbutrin. I was on it for over a year. I stayed on it because I was able to tolerate it. It did not upset my stomach, and it did not make me feel like I was on drugs. But, I was still depressed.

I take 150mg of Zoloft and 150mg of Wellbutrin a day. I don't think Wellbutrin would do well on it's own. However it is very nice because I haven't had any side effects from it.

I have taken imipramine, Prozac, Buspar, Wellbutrin, Zoloft and am now on Effexor SR. I would say that (with the exception of the imipramine - nasty side effects from tricyclics)of the SSRIs, Prozac gave me the most side effects that were intolerable (hyperkinesia and sexual side effects) - that's when I started taking the Buspar to counteract the side effects - way too much hassle! I have taken Prozac for a year on two separate occasions and find that it tends to lose its efficacy. I found that same problem with the Zoloft and Wellbutrin. The Prozac and the Wellbutrin both affected my appetite and I lost weight. I think that the Effexor SR has been pretty helpful and has not seemed to lose its efficacy - I've been on it for close to a year now. I also increase my dosage during my PMS week, when I am especially hateful and evil (lol), which has been very helpful. I think that because we all react so differently to the meds, it is pretty much an issue of trial and error to see which ones do the best for you.
