I have GERD and was taking Prilosec for two weeks and went off cause I think Im allergic to it and now Im on Zantac. Can anyone tell me which one helped best for them of the two? Also my dr. gave me a perscription today for Reglan but am unsure REALLY about taking it cause Im hearing horror stories about it! Help me on these two questions if you can.

Thanxs in advance and god bless.

My 21 month old son is on Zantac for heartburn. He has an extra senstive gag and vomits easily. The Zantac helps cut down on the burn when he does vomit. It seems to do the trick. We do not have any experience with Prisolec. Also, Reglan didn't do anything for my son. No side affects but it didn't work. He was prescribed it to help with digestion.

I was given Reglan for nausea and vomiting, and while it worked wonders for that, I felt like I was coming out of my skin. I was told it crosses the blood brain barrier and that is what causes this reaction. Not everyone has this happen, but when it does, it can be terrible until the medication gets out of your system.

You won't know until you try it. I'd say go for it, but, I'm not in your body.

Hope you are doing better since you first posted.

Reglan really works for me. The side effects are awful though. I am tired all the time, get migranes, depressed and even get these weird twitched/tics; it looks like im shivering so it doesn't make people stare at me, it's just, I'm not shivering. Everytime I go to the doctor the diagnosis is "It's the reglan". I hate that medication yet couldn't live without it.
I'm currently on a combination of reglan and prilosec, but even the prilosec is having bad side effects like horrible leg and joint pain. It also gives me the symptoms of a bladder infection ::sigh:: medication is not fun.

Hi, I took Reglan about 15 years ago when I was first diagnosed with GERD, but my family doc took me off it several months later because of terrible side effects. He wouldn't go into detail, but said it wasn't safe to have me on it. I've never taken it again, and no present doc has ever recommended it to me for treatment of my GERD. In fact, I thought it was off the market - like Propulsid.

Anyway, I would be very careful in taking it. From reading the other responses on this board, it sounds like some have had a negative effect from it.

Good luck,
Katie G

I used to take propulsid also. The reglan side effects are bad, but its just a question of what do you want? Side effects of GERD? I mean it works, I haven't vomited in years. I was thinking of this post throughout the day... I wish I could get off Reglan but I get so sick without it. I used to be one 3 pills a day, I was so depressed and could barley keep my eyes open. Now I'm down to 1.5 pills a day, and am doing much better. I want to take even less, but with school I can't 'try' not to take my morning dose because if I get sick, then I have to sit through 8 hrs of classes before I can take it at home. I think the twitches are the worst, if I have to go through this conversation one more time I'll flip:
"why are you cold?"
"I'm not"
"but you're shaking"
"I know"
I'm hesitant to say "its the medicine", I don't want people wondering about me...

go on mayoclinic.com and check out the side effects, some are so awful they're rather amusing. My personal favorites are "inability to move eyes" and "circular motions of the tounge"
