Hello All,
I have been having terrible pain in the stomach, side and back for some time now. I have had GI series, upper and lower, endoscope, colonoscopy, ulrasound, CT scan with all coming back normal. I went to another doctor and he ordered a hida scan which showed my gall bladder functioning at 5%. My neuro surgeon ( who is looking to fuse my neck )and the gastro doc suggested that I have my gall bladder taken out. On Feb 5th I did so. The pain did not go away, in fact is just as bad if not worse after the surgery. Has anyone had similar problems? Any suggestions? I am taking a great deal of pain medication(percocet) in order to just function. Thanks for any response.

Andy

Does the pain seem to be internal? Or, external? Or, somewhat undeterminable? Could you have a pulled muscle or a pinched nerve? You mentioned having to have your neck fused.....could a chiro help? The only reason I go in this direction is because I had a pain in my left breast that could not be diagnosed by an M.D.. I was raised in a chiro family, but hadn't been for an adjustment for years. So, I thought I'd have her check it out. I know some don't believe in this, but she WAS able to work the pain out. Even tho I thought it was an internal pain, I was proved wrong and if I don't see her often enough, the pain reoccurs. Just trying to help you think this through.

Andy,
Could it be something so simple as Irritable Bowel Syndrome? Sounds dumb, but my sister (24) was having absolutley excruciating pain for months and months in her abdomin. She had allll sorts of tests. Everything came out normal. Finally she was diagnosed with this and has some sort of medication for it that has fixed everything.
That is all I can think of right now.
I hope you get your answer!!

Thanks for the responses. The pain is internal. I have tried chiropractors too. I have been to several with no success on this or the back problems. I hope it is something simple! I just want to know what is causing all of this so I can begin to have it treated. I go to the neuro surgeon day after tomorrow and I would guess he will send to someone for futher tests. We will see. Thanks for your feedback!

I have gastritis and something I'm noticing. I have terrible pain at times on my lower right SIDE, and lower back pain. Perhaps you need a chest x-ray of your lungs. Could help.

I have gastritis also. I had a chest x ray when I had the CT scan, etc. and it was clear, thank goodness. I have heard of a test called a ERCP where it looks at the bile ducts. Maybe I should ask for that to be done. I am not familiar with such a test. Have you ever heard of it? It is called a Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography. Thanks for the repsonses.

OH YEAH, I've definitely heard of that. You don't want to ask just any doc to do it. This sort of test isn't like walking in for an endoscopy, scan, etc, etc. This test causes pancreatitis in a LOT of people. You couldn't pay me enough to get this test done. I'd live with the pain first before I let anyone go digging around my pancrease. ASK other's. There's a big discussion on this over at medhelp.com Listen to others, get opinions. I'm going to a chiro and for a masage. This might be my problem.

Yes, I have done some more reading about the ERCP. It is not something that sounds like a lot of fun. I asked my neuro surgeon about it yesterday and he said forget it. He seems to think the continued pain I am having is still from the gall bladder surgery and it is just taking a long time to heal. We have put off the neck fusion at least 6 months to see if the other pain gets better. SO, we will see.
