Hi BTG,

Cyclothymic disorder can be very frustrating. If your moods are fluctuating that dramatically in a matter of hours, for no apparent reason, you would probably want to have your condition stablilised. Are you being treated for it, and do you have a good support network?

Hopefully someone who suffers from it will come along and say "Hi", so that the 2 of you can compare experiences.

Neverhteless, most people here have experience with mood disorders of some sort, predominantly depression, so I am sure they will understand how you are feeling, and will be able to give you a lot of support.

Best wishes,
Chrys.

Hi BTG I was married to a bipolor lady(15YRS) and now I am living with another one(3YRS). You should be treated. I am sure you know that many famous people have been bipolar(search the net) This can be treated! good luck!

Hi, Im new to this board, but not to bipolar.
Cyclothymia is a version that lasts about 2-3 yrs and is less severe, but more frequent in mood swings. After 2 or 3 yrs, drs typically diagnose bipolar 1 or 2. Bipolar disorder used to be known as manic depression, but the name was changed because of misconceptions by the general public. Treatment is essential, because without it the disorder tends to become progressively worse. Treatment can be a difficult process however, because each individual differs in their reactions to the available methods. I hope that you will find your therapist and/or dr helpful in this process, and that both therapy and treatment will be a positive and easy step for you.
Meanwhile, keep posting here as adequate support can be invaluable.

Keep your chin up BTG. You'll get through this. It's tough, I know, but you just gotta hang in there. Take each it day by day, hour by hour and minute by minute. Set backs and "down" days suck but hopefully tomorrow will be a better one.

So I'm not the only one who gets compulsive sometimes?
I was depressed about a few things, so I cleaned my entire apartment, decided to look for pictures I put away, tore the whole place apart doing so, got frustrated & threw things, & then cleaned the whole place again! Overnight!! I just couldn't sleep. The sleeping thing doesn't happen often, but the compulsive "have to keep busy & clean" thing is on & off. I only spaz like that when I think about winning back my ex-boyfriend. He's the love of my life & it kills me to not be with him anymore.
I was diagnosed with bi-polar (Doc didn't tell me which one though) & part of my problem was that I spent money like it was nothing, I even spent money I didn't have. Too bad I didn't spend it on bills. Early last year I had my car (our only transportation) repossessed AFTER I filed bankruptcy, & I just turned 25 this Nov. We lived together so....unpaid bills? Someone had to pay them....(I feel awful about how I behaved) He had had it with the money & left me in Jan of this year. He said maybe I could have another chance if I cleaned up my finances & got myself straightened out. Now anytime I think about that I go ballistic cleaning, organizing & re-organizing, I'll write out cheques for bills WAY in advance (the ones that are the same every month), I'll clean out my fridge & throw out old stuff, go thru my clothes & throw stuff in a pile that I haven't worn in like 6 mos & do massive loads of laundry....etc.
I had wondered if this was normal. Is it?

Hello everyone,

I wanted to tell SilverWillow yes it is normal for now. I think you have to just give yourself a break and if you are going to clean all night that's okay for now. I used to stay up all night writing lists. I don't do that anymore. Please just know that one day it will be different. It took me a long time but am okay now. Are you in treatment? After I got off medications, ate the correct foods and got exercise daily I started living a normal life but it took a long time to get there. Please take care and keep us posted. pinkcat

I haven't been diagnosed with bi polar but I definitely know about the mood swings. I go from one mood to the so much that I don't know how I really feel.

Silverwillow, I do the cleaning thing also. I give so many clothes away that I hardly have any myself. I don't have the money spending thing though. Most of the time I don't even have any money to spend, but when I do I obsess over ways to make it last. I'm a huge budget freak. I'm also a list maker. I can't start any projects until I have a list made out with every step written down in the order that they need to be done. Crazy huh?
