Looking for some of the experts I have learned knows a lot more about E than I do. My son had blood work done last week and his Valproic Acid Level was 84. I was just wondering what others that are taking Depakote have had their Valproic Acid Levels come back as? They have also increased is dosage since those levels were taken from 250mg to 375mg as of Sunday and then as of this Sunday to 500mg. He is 4 and I want to make sure that the levels are not too high. The doctor feels that the increase should not make a significant change. Look forward to hearing from everyone. David IP: Logged |

I was wondering what the acid levels meant?? They said something about that when we were in the hospital for my son. We are waiting to see the neurologist..in the mean time I have been trying to get educated on epilepsy since my son age 14 just started having seizures/.. The er doctor put him on depakote. Hey there, Just an FYI- docs usually look for depakote levels to be between 50-150. Anywhere in that range is a happy territory. Below that is ineffective, and over that is a bit dangerous. I tend to have sz if mine dips below 100- that is my happy medium. Had mine come back one time at .05- had the ER doc yelling at me pretty good until they realized my body did not process the med normally. They got the other blood work back and then felt like idiots. Have to watch my blood levels really close. So yeah, if your level's at 84 and no sz, then life is GOOD!!!! IP: Logged |

My son's level in always on the low end and the doctor's don't like it that low - but he never has a seizure while it is that low - however if he goes off completely, he will have a seizure. If we up the dosage, he gets very short tempered. So, we leave it on the low end - I think everyone is different. ------------------ IP: Logged |
