I know what you mean about back fat. I looked at a picture taken of me one day and I was thoroughly disguisted with how I looked. I was working out a couple of times a week, but I could barely notice it. I decided it was time to change my lifestyle. I read some books ( which there are thousands out there), but ultimately I just educated myself and created my own plan. For starters, I needed to change my diet. Its the foundation ( along with exercise) to losing weight. Everybody says it, but it is true. I don't follow atkins or any other "diet" out there. I need carbs for energy and for exercising. Anyway, I eat breakfast, lunch, dinner, and two snacks. This keeps my metabolism up througout the day. Next, I incorporated a 4 day/ week exercise program. I hate training legs, so I hardly ever do it. Monday/Thureday are my chest/back day and Tuesday/Saturday are my Arms/shoulder day. For my back I do a variety of exercise such as pullups, lat pulldowns, and various other exercises. On each day that I worked out I would warm up by walking for about 7 min, followed by 30 minutes or so of strength training. I like to Superset with no F'n around. After this I would hop on the elliptical trainer for about 25- 30 minutes, depending on how I feel. The key for me was to change my diet and workout my back twice a week. I did not go that heavy because I was trying to lose the fat and keep the muscle. If I went heavy it was almost impossible for my back muscles to heal themselves because I was taking in less calories than I was burning each day. This was a few years ago and I have dropped 40 lbs, 4 inched from my waist and have maintained it through diet and exercise. My biggest problem is the weekends. I like to have a few beers on the weekends, which I do, but I work it off during the week. Hope this helps. This is just my own routine. Everybody has their own "diet" and exercise program. Exercises that target a certain area of your body will not remove fat. They will strengthen the muscles in that area. Cardio and diet are the only way to take fat off. And if you're working your upper body, and not your lower body, you're going to look uneven. IP: Logged |

Like I said, this is just my routine, take it as you wish. I have abnormally short, but muscular legs which is why I do not do hardly any leg exercises. I will do some leg extenions and hamstring curls on Sunday, which is supposed to be my "off" day, but I just like to go because I love exercising. IP: Logged |
