I know this may sound strange but my problem is that I'm 28 yrs old and look like I'm 17. I'm married and have 2 kids.I look and sound 17 as well...don't have a deep voice. I seen ppl I use to go to High school with and just avoid them cause I'm emberassed. They all look different, I mean they look their age so much more mature. I'm still waiting for the day when I wake up and actually start looking older. This might seem like a minor issue to most of you but this tears me up inside. I feel I get less respect because i look so young. I know some of you are saying I would love to look young but I would rather be 40 and look 28 then be 28 and look 17. Is there a medical term for this? Could it be caused by low testosterone levels or something? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. IP: Logged |

I would ask your doctor about testosterone. Maybe there is even a "patch" you can wear, like menopausal women can wear an estrogen patch. Good luck and don't be embarrassed! Most of the guys at my 10-year high school reunion were bald and had pot bellies! I thought the guys who looked the same were so cute! ------------------ [This message has been edited by Cheryl3 (edited 08-06-2002).] [This message has been edited by Cheryl3 (edited 04-10-2003).] IP: Logged |

I have a couple of tips for you to look older: buy some granny glasses and dye your hair gray. don't wear tight jeans; wear slacks with a stretch waist and cotton blouses that button up. never wear a ponytail or "youthful" hairdo. instead, get a very curly, short perm. With a short, curly gray perm you should look a lot older, esp with granny glasses on. Never wear sandals with toenail polish. Buy some faded white canvas tennis shoes at a thrift store. Don't wear any clothing that shows off a cute figure; cover it up with loose clothes. Hope this helps. ------------------ IP: Logged |

I read your comment about going out without sunscreen but I am wondering what does someone do when they can't use it???? Every time I apply sunscreen I end up with major, severe burns. I tan without it...one of my best friends is a nurse, she was stunned with the results of applying it to my back. Just curious if anyone else has this weird problem. IP: Logged |

Don't sweat the small stuff. I was carded in cocktail lounges til I was 38, I'm now 54 and look to everyone about 45, have 5 grandkids that I can keep up with and I have a petite figure that is still girlish and I'm proud of it. If you want to age, drink lots of booze, smoke anything, let your body go to hell, OR be thankful the gene pool was kind to you. You'll get there soon enough don't hurry it up! IP: Logged |

Everyone ages, just enjoy looking young while you can. Believe me, fifteen years from now you will look your age...kids do that to you! ![]() You might try dressing a bit more mature, or wearing your hair differently. IP: Logged |

Count your blessings! When your friends are old and haggard looking you will still look great. Avoid the sun, skin cancer is the result. I was never a sun bather but do have fair complection and have pre cancer places burned off or biopsied frequently plus have had 3 actual skin cancers removed. Genetics plays a big part in how old a person looks. My parents are 93 and 97 but neither look that old. I do not look my age either and I am glad. This means I color my hair to go with youthful looking face. Marie IP: Logged |

Don't complain just enjoy it, I was still carded when I was 35 and I'm 54 now but people say I have a youthfull stride and appearance and think I'm 45 and I'm not going to complain. It creeps up on us fast enough so don't worry about it. IP: Logged |

I, too, at 61, do not look my age. Be grateful, your time will come. My husband doesn't either, at 65. We just enjoy! IP: Logged |

You better get use to it. You just might look young/youthful for the rest of your life. I've always looked about 10 years younger. And I must admit I love it. Now, I'm letting my grey hair grow in (not by choice) so there's no way in my eyes I can look too much younger. But then I do wear my hair in a ponytail and play tennis. So I feel young and continue to look young. By the way I'm 58 years young. I think it's the genes. Try looking more like older woman if that's what you want. I do the reverse. IP: Logged |

Don't worry, Like Dorrian Gray's portrait, age will sneak up on you and overtake you with the speed and fury of a runaway locomotive. You will think back many times to your "malady" and say, "If only I could have it back. It will be too late, though!" I think the precise medical term is "frellin' good-luckitis." Testosterone check is unnecessary, ask your parents if either of them suffered the same tragic fate (tongue planted firmly in cheek!) Think often of the Jacque Brel lyric: "If I could be for only an hour, [This message has been edited by zip2play (edited 02-28-2003).] IP: Logged |

Aging can probably be attributed to many things from smoking, late nights, excessive alcohol, over use of make up at too young an age, too much sun. Both my parents don't look their age, my dad especially. I'm now 36 yrs old and get told i look from 21 to 25 years old. Some people tell me that i don't look old enough to be married and my work uniform gets mistaken for a school uniform!!! I don't complain about looking very young as i don't have to worry about wrinkle creams and all the other expensive stuff women buy and go to beauticians for. For me it was funny and a novelty in my 20's when people commented on it, but now as i'm much older i tend to get embarrassed when people make a big deal out of it. I'd say my saving grace was oily skin in my late teen's early twenties, must have preserved my face :P IP: Logged |

Jeez Lucky you guys.. I don't smoke and rarely ever drink. I dont look old persay, but im 21, 22 in 2 weeks and I could pass for a 30 year old. I just have a very manly look to me already. Not to mention I have to shave 3 times a day to keep a clean face. I hope I dont look like im 50 when im 30. I took alot of androstendione off and on for a couple years and im starting to wonder if that aged me. Maybe too much testosterone.... IP: Logged |

I'm 52 yet everyone says I look 35, so I'm happy about that. You'll really appreciate looking younger as you age. So if you look 17 now, you'll look 20 when you're 31. That's really not a bad thing at all, most women would love to be in your shoes. If you're really worried it could be something medical, I'd see your doctor for reassurance. That's what I do when something is troubling me. It will put your mind at ease. IP: Logged |

WHD- Gee, I was carded until I was over 30 yrs old, and I will always be proud of that. But those days are over and that is something you will never get back. Believe me, no matter how little and cute and young-looking you are, you will eventually look mature and might possible even look your age. I wish I still had your problem! Stop the complaining and count your blessings!!! IP: Logged |

I am 54 and look like I am in my late 30's early 40's. Enjoy looking younger. It pays off as you get older. Nothing is better than to be 40 and have a guy in his 20's turn his head to look at you. God has blessed you - go with it and enjoy. IP: Logged |

I too am 28 and young-looking. I look 14, but when I see all of the people I used to go to school with, I feel pretty good because all of the people who used to tease me are looking a lot worse for the years. Revenge is sweet. I really doubt there's any medical cause for it. You're probably doing something right. Your body isn't supposed to age at the rate that it does in modern society. Processed foods, tanning, smoking etc. take a toll on the body that people in primitive societies don't have to worry about. IP: Logged |
