I have double vision for the past week. Im 29 years old. Ive been diagnosed witn MS and had some kind of illness the past 2 weeks before the vision started. Im wondering if this is probably MS related, an aneurism, or a stroke. It is starting to really impact my life the last 2 days. Ive got an appointment for an opthamologist, in DECEMBER. That's the earliest one. The neurologist hasn't boooked me in (I called a couple times). Any help appreciated IP: Logged |

Hi there, Sorry to hear about the double vision.......strange, but the same thing happened to my dad this summer......it was lateral double vision, CT normal, blood work normal, no hypertension, everything looking normal.............he wore a patch for a while, then had the eye tech get him prism glasses (that alleviated the problem)til it settled down on it's own, which took about 6 weeks........drove him crazy....then guess what happened this past week????? Woke up with it again, this time vertical double vision, saw the eye tech again today, we are going to get blood work done again and pursue an MRI.........I have a good friend who is a Neurologist, he saw him, thinking it might have been a TIA (small stroke), however, with all of the normal diagnostics, he concluded just a muscle weakness....now that it happened again, I'm going to get him to assess dad again.......have you seen your GP about it yet? i would suggest a neurological opthalmologist. double vision can be a symptom of ms, especially if you have other ocular involvement such as optic neuritis. i think you can research diplopia. wishing you the best, S IP: Logged |

Je: Because you were sick before the double vision started, there is the possibility of a nerve palsy--usually Sixth Nerve Palsy which can result from a viral infection. This nerve controls eye muscles. Do some net research on 6th nerve palsy. It often resolves itself, not not always. Good luck. Moe IP: Logged |

I have duplopia (sp?) caused by my ambliopia. My understanding is that it is unusual to have an onset of double vision like you describe without it being caused by either MS, some sort of nerve palsy or TIA/Stroke. For people with duplopia caused by ambliopia or a large difference in prescription b/w their eyes, the double vision gets better and worse based on time of day and how tired your eyes are. If yours is not doing that I would suggest seeing a neurological opthomalagist in lieu of a regular one. Glasses with prisms really help, as does eye therapy to strengthen the muscles. Good luck. I started wearing glasses/contacts about 10 years ago. Ever since I then, I have had great vision (sharpness). I deffinantly needed the contacts. However, anytime I am in a dark environment (nighttime, movies, etc.) where there is a lot of movement or action around me, I get double vision. Because of this I never go see movies, cannot play competitive sports and have difficulty driving at night. My eye doctor did some tests but everything seems to be fine. He gave me "eye excercises" to do but they did not help. Any sugguestions? IP: Logged |

My clinical and amateur extraocular checkups were normal. Both eyes move like normal eyes. The trouble being there are too many images! I've had lots of rest the last few days, and enough prednisone to put out the fires in Kuwait, and it's almost back to normal now. Even most of the vertigo has gone away. I hope it's gone!
