Does anyone out there suffer from pain and redness in one or both of their eyes due to inflamation of the socket. Any ideas what causes this? So far doctors don't have much of an explanation but perscribe steroids which helps but it always comes back. IP: Logged |

have you been tested for grave's disease or any other ocular inflammatory diseases? uveitis, scleritis, episcleritis? you might try a google search or maybe check harvard for your symptoms. steriods are good for quelling the inflammation but if it keeps comming back when the steriods are withdrawn you might want to investigate an underlying cause such as systemic or autoimmune in nature. best of luck, S IP: Logged |

Stephie thanks for the reply. It is my husband that has this proplem and yes steroids drops cleared it up up for a couple years but now it comes right back. I will investigate further. Any idea as to what kind of a specialist he should see. He has been to several eye doctors and they just tell him to keep using the steroids. IP: Logged |

maybe an ocular immunologist if you have one in your area, there are not many around so that might be difficult. i would see an opthalmologist for a complete evaluation and maybe an internal specialist for some labs to help determine if there is any markers that would point to an underlying illness that may just be presenting in the eyes. i hope this is not a serious condition but i would be concerned that the condition returns. also the use of steriods can increase the risk of glaucoma and cataract formation. best of luck, S IP: Logged |
