Am wondering if any dry eye sufferers out there can tell me if they have had the opportunity to try restasis yet, and if so, can you give me some feedback, positive or negative? IP: Logged |

I've tried the active ingredient like a couple of years ago (it wasn't approved for human use back then). I used it for about 1 month. The drops burned somewhat (not a bad burn ) but didn't do what they should have. Btw someone here at this forum (Sabine I think) is looking also for those answers so may be you should try to get in contact with her (dunno if she is active right now haven't seen any posts lately).IP: Logged |

Hi, Dylan I didn't receive the restasis yet. Normally it should arrive this week. For the moment I am posting on the forum from surgical eyes. A certain Dr. Frank Holly contacted me and will try to help me. He has a foundation called the Dry Eye Institute. He developed a few eyedrops for people like us and he seems to have a lot of success. Sabine, that's great! Please let us know what he comes up with! As for the Restasis, well I have been on it for almost 4 months, and so far I see little to no improvement. IP: Logged |

Elyse, why did they think the Restasis would help you? It's only for improving the quantity of tears, right? Isn't your problem with the quality of tears? IP: Logged |

Donna, I had heard that restasis was supposed to help increase quality as well. However, I also needed help with the quantity part too. Prior to getting my tear ducts cauterized, I had NO tears in my eyes. Then after the cauterization I began to have enough, but we want it to STAY that way, and Restasis can't hurt. If it helps with the quality, then great. That's what I really want. But there are still some days, like today, when I feel like there is not a single tear in my eyes. This especially happens when I wake up in the mornings. I literally do not have a single tear when I wake up. Then throughout the day, most of the time I have enough, but not the right quality. So we're still trying to figure out this nighttime dryness thing, as well as the problem with the poor quality and hopefully the Restasis will help. I wish there was a medicine that could truly increase the QUALITY! Restasis was billed as the miracle drug for all dry eye sufferers. It's a good medicine, but it's not the miracle that it was supposed to be. [This message has been edited by purple2067 (edited 07-26-2003).] IP: Logged |

I think Restasis is the most exciting thing to hit the dry eye world in a long time. The fact that it doesn't help all dry eye patients is a reflection of the many different causes of dry eye. Have you ever seen a doctor of naturopathic medicine, Purple? If so what did he/she say or suggest? (Just my personal curiosity IP: Logged |

I've been using the Restasis for a couple of weeks now and am not sure about how it is working... Been having eye ball pain and pressure behind the eyeballs and sometimes when I move my eyes directionally it is uncomfortable. Will be seeing eye doctor tomorrow. Will see. IP: Logged |

Smortimer, I never saw a naturopathic doctor for my eye problems. I did see one as a young teen for other health problems, and all he did was take my family's money and screw me up even more. I am not at all saying that every naturopath is like that, but I'm kind of jaded. Also, I am so allergic to so many things (especially when it comes to my eyes) and I am not willing to try anything that hasn't been studied by the majority of the medical community, because if I have an allergic reaction to something or something makes me sick, what is anyone going to do for me? I really don't mean to sound angry or to shoot down your suggestion. I hope I don't come across that way. I appreciate it very much, and I will definitely keep it in the back of my mind. By the way, my allergist is not a naturopath, but he does believe in a lot of natural medicine and he has tried a lot of different diets and other such things with me (vitamins, probiotics, etc...) and nothing ever helped with my eyes. Gemi, good luck at the dr tomorrow. Let us know what happens. Elyse IP: Logged |
