I need help ! I am a 35 yr female who was transferred to a reigonal medical center from a smaller hospital 2 weeks ago with what they thought was a stroke. The med center diagnosed it as a complex migraine. BUT, no one will tell me what this means. They have me on Topamax 25mg 2x daily. It is suppposed to be a preventative medication.

Not only that, but when they did the MRI, they found 3 small leisons on my brain. The radiologists says that it is MS. The neurologist says that it is caused by smoking. ( I didn't know smoking could do that). PLEASE anyone that has anything that can help me shed some light as to what is going on here I would REALLY appreciate it

You need to get a definate opinion regarding what is going on. Brain lesions are not a conclusive indicator of MS although they can be. As for smoking causing lesions on the brain...........I hadn't heard about that so I did some searching on the web and all the info I found says nicotine type subtances may actaully reduce the tendency for lesions on the brain especially regarding those that cause alzheimers. Since you have two very different opinions of what the lesions on your brain are from I am wondering if a third opinion isn't in order. Maybe someone else will have a better clue than I do but for now I would get another opinion if it was me.

Oh I am most definitely ! I havew another appointment with another neurologist reccomended by my doctorin a few weeks. Not only do I want the third opinon, but the neurologist that saw me in the hospital did not feel it necessary to see me for 3 months for a follow up visit to the hospitalization. I thought that kind of odd. Thanks for taking the time to respond. I just can't wait until I get a full explanation of what's going on.
