I recently got a horrible head cold which backed up into my ears. My doctor told me that I didn't have an ear infection, but that I just had to keep trying to pop my ears and that the fluid that was trapped would drain out. My left one was never that bad, but I just cannot get my right one to pop! I can't eat, because the pain the pressure is causing makes my jaw and cheeck on the right side of my face ache horribly. What can I do, or take to relieve this? It is absolutely driving me crazy! IP: Logged |

Hi, it's your eustachian tube that is blocked (almost certainly) try a decongestant nose drop (not spray) here in England it's called Otrivine, you can get it over the counter. This will go in to your e tubes through your nose. This is the first option you should try. After that some people try steroids, either in the form of a nose drop or oral steroids - this can work to alleviate the inflammation in the tubes thus allowing the fluid to drain. If it proves stubborn to treat, a tiny tube can be inserted in to the ear drum which allows the fluid to drain. This is not painful and is done under a local anaesethetic often in a doctor's office. But I wouldn't even think about that before you've tried to alleviate it in other ways. IP: Logged |
