I live in the San Franciso Bay area and would like to know which is the best way to detect/predict cornary heart disease. I see there are 2 methods - EBT and teh multi detector CT scanner. Did anyone undergo any of these procedures and what Thanks in advance! IP: Logged |

I recently had a CT Heart Scan (no doctors referral was necessary) at a major hospital where I reside. The cost was $250 and took less than 10 minutes. I received the written Radiology Report a week later. You receive a SCORE which is attached to your age. In my situation, I tested, "moderate risk of occlusive coronary atherosclerosis (I'm 62). This means I have above average calcium in my arteries. I plan to take the necessary steps to make sure the SCORE doesn't increase which will be dietary & lifestyle changes including supplements for the heart (Hawthorne, CQ10, Garlic, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Cayenne, etc). Next year, I'll take the test again and see if there an improvement. Most people have no idea what there calcium level is. A score above 400 is very dangerous. A simple $250 test could save lives. Prevention is the Best Medicine. I consider the $300 stress test to be a waste of money. Go for the CT Heart Scan. IP: Logged |

Please do not believe that the CT scan for calcium is an indicator of heart disease. There has never been any study that correlates calcification with heart disease. I have seen patients with severe calcification and no blockages in their coronary arteries. I personally believe that this is a scam. Yes, they can detect calcification. So what. You can see that on a chest xray. The only truly diagnostic procedure for detection of coronary artery disease is a coronary angiogram. Unfortunately, there are some physicians who call themselves cardiologists and claim that the CT scan can tell all. If you really want to be sure, find a cardiologist who is Board Certified. If the CT scan is so great, why are you not seeing it used in major medical centers to diagnose heart disease? You won't find any. CT can't find blockages in coronary arteries. IP: Logged |

hi i also had test, score 136,hubby 165. our stress tests are normal. we have family historys, high cholesterol. hubbys on cholesterol meds, im going with diet first. cardio said figure test as indicator, like cholesterol test.he also said you could have alot of calcium and no blockages. i would have liked the test better if my score was 0.....i was awreck after results, than went to cardio and he put things in perspective.i would go if i was you, but, if you'll get crazy with bad results....dont go.
