I have a 2" diameter red splotch at the injection site. It has been 6 days since my last shot. It is not swollen, just RED and a bit itchy. Has anyone else had this. If so, when does it go away?

Thanks!

Hi Lorna
My husband has the red blotchy patches too where he has injected. His Dr. told him this is due to the shot of course and the meds sit there longer due to once a week injection. He isn't having any itchiness there though.
Bye for now, Faith

Hey Lorna, did you say you were on Pegintron or Pegasys?

I have heard about the red spots as being common and they go away with time.

I'd review your injection procedures to make sure you follow them to a "tee".

Another thing I do is to wipe (dab) the needle with my alcohol pad right before I inject to clean off any of the interferon "drop" on the needle. I haven't had any reactions so far.

How are you feeling this week?

Jeannie

I definetely agree with all the above advice. Red spots and itchiness and occasionally that kinda shiney skin patchiness were all part of the deal for me. One thing the instructions mention is to draw the shot to make sure it's not in a blood vessel. Ask your doc about this, cause to tell you the truth it was wild enough for me just getting the shot in and steady without trying to draw back on the syringe, so I hardly ever did.
Be well and blessed. . .How's Canada?

Hi Jeannie,

Unfortunately, I am on PegIntron (Schering) , Not Pegasys (Roche).

The spot is still very RED!

Simon,

I did draw back on the syringe . . . no blood. I don't remember the red spot from last time. That doesn't mean the spot wasn't there.

Canada has been AWESOME! It has been great seeing my family. I miss my dogs tho. The wedding is tomorrow.

Take care and God Bless!

Hi Lorna!

I'll bet Canada is beautiful this time of year. What a great time to have a wedding. I'll bet your puppies miss you too!

Well, try this tonight; wipe (with your alcohol pad) that little "blob" of peg off the bevel of the needle. Might help and it doesn't hurt to try right?!

Take care girl and talk to ya soon! I'll be praying for us tonight!!

Jeannie

I get the good ole red blotch myself every now and then about once every 4 injections. There is no difference in injection methods so I dont know what causes it but reading on Pegintron this is fairly common, nothing to be concerned about. Part of the fun sides I guess. They do go away for me after a couple of weeks. If that's the least of the sides (or most notable) your in pretty good shape.

Hi Lorna,
I'm in week 20 of pegintron. In the first month I tried each side of the belly, this was bad. The red spots turned into scaley, itchy patches that lasted for weeks. I took the belly area out of my rotation and only use the thighs now. After injection I take an alcohol swab and apply gentle pressure to the site in a circular pattern (as in cleaning to prep). This seems to help get the peg moving off the site quicker. I also use a site code on my calendar (LOH = left outside high and so on). In this way I am sure to hit each site only once every eight weeks.
I hope you find this helpfull

Idid have the red spots at my injection sites, my doc told me to rotate shot sites like leg 1 week arm the next week then the belly area, my doc also prescribed hydrocotisone cream to apply to the injection sites. Ihope this helps and good luck with the treatments.

Hi Lorna,

Sorry to hear about the itchys. Gerry just got his first itchy injection spot recently.

He's decided that he does NOT want to have his arm itchy or feel sore so he's determined he's just going to transfer legs. I think it's wrong but he's determined.

Shot #11 he got his first bright red itchy spot. Before it was just kind of a dead feeling then a sore spot. We tried Benadryl cream 2%, it only works for about the first 20min. Then we got some Hydrocortosone cream, didn't work either. It finally went away on day 4, then...

Shot #12 he got red, itchy the next day. It's driving him nuts. He says it doesn't hurt it's just really red and itchy.

I did try the alcohol wipe thing, evidently didn't work for Gerry but try it. It's worth a try.

I believe that you SHOULD vary the injection sites so good idea about charting your "spots"..this way you will be sure to rotate.

I still have a red spot on that right leg. I used the left for injection #2, no spot yet . . . Thanks for all of the info. I did wipe the tip of the needle with the alcool pad on #2. Maybe that did help. Who knows. My million dollar legs are tainted with this red spot and of course it is short wearing season . . . LOL!

Take care and God bless,

You and Betty Grable with your million dollar legs!!! Maybe if you can design a red blotch tatoo with each injection!!!!

Glad the "de-blob" worked for you. It seems to do the trick!!!

Have a great week and keep up that sense of humor!
