Well I have researched this for quite sometime now and ill make my story breif. First of all to all you people: You can get herpes from oral sex EVEN if you dont see any sores or blisters on the person's face and mouth. How do I know??? It happened to me. When i was being examined I was thinking it couldnt be an STD cause I hadent had sex in like 5 months.. till the DOC said "It looks herpetic.." Im telling you I was crying the whole time and devistated because I thought I had classic herpes type 2. When i found out it was type 1 I was so suprised cause I didnt know it could happen that way. THE GOOD NEWS: no more outbreaks since the first, and that was a year and a half ago!!! I learned that oral herpes isnt agressive when its out of its domain... To all you guys who have gone through this, it may be the worst day of your life at first but then you think "at least its not aids" and move on.

Hi BeSafe20,

So sorry to hear your story. Yes, it's very true that you can get genital herpes from oral-genital contact. In this case, it is probably HSV-1 which in most cases is much milder in the outbreaks, both in frequency and severity. It can vary greatly from person to person, but you have a much better chance of having an easier time of it with genital HSV-1.

Thanks for sharing some hope with others on the board.

I got GH from oral sex myself, but in my case, my bf had a cold sore on his lip. We were just never taught that it could be passed from mouth to genitals.
So far it has been two months, and I haven't been on supressive therapy or lycine and I haven't had any recurrent OBs yet.
I am considering supressive therapy for my bf's sake.
Since I've had HSV 1 orally since I was a small child, I am hoping that the virus affects me in the same way and I don't have another OB for a long, long time...

It was about a week for me as well, but it's often hard to tell. The disease can stay repressed for a long time so there's no real sure fire way to find out when you got it. I know 100% for sure who I got it from because he's the only person I've ever had any sort of sexual contact with, and I have a good idea of when I got it, but I can't be sure because he had no visible outbreak on his mouth. The doctor told me I would've had an open cut at the time of transmission, so I'm just assuming that I got it when I did because I had noticed a small cut on my labia.
