Hi,

I'm 38 years old, have been on and off statins for 4 or 5 years or so...had all the muscle pains, forgetfulness, etc. So my doc switched me to Lescol, but that too bothered me. So now she has written an Rx for Questran Light.

My biggest trouble is high triglycerides. My last numbers (without being on any meds for 6 months) were:

TC = 321
HDL = 58
LDL = 184
Tri = 393

So, now I'm going to try the Questran Light. My doc said that this will help my triglycerides also, but everything I've read online doesn't say anything about triglycerides. I did a search on this board, and read about a few folks that were prescribed Questran, but never tried it. I understand it may cause constapation (which I suffer from already) and maybe cramps and other bowel problems.

My big question that I forgot to ask my doctor, and I will ask my pharmacist tomorrow, but thought some of you knoweledgeable folks may know:

Can I (should I) continue to take metumucil with Questran?

If anyone has any personal experience with this product, I would appreciate your take on Questran.

Thank you for any comments.

Hi
I took Questran for about 6 months not for cholesterol but for overgrowth of c difficile toxin. I know it's not fun to take but it was the only thing that cured me and it is much better on your body than these other drugs. I do also have high cholesterol and I am on lipitor right now. Let me know how your levels do I might switch to Questran again. The c difficile toxin I had caused severe diarrhea so no problems in that area(constipation). Just eat lots of fiber! keep us posted.

Are you looking for a drug to solve your triclyceride problem? IMHO, may I suggest that you do a little bit of research in Biochemistry 101. High triclyceride levels are a direct result of high carbohydrate(sugar) consumption. Your body converts carbohydrates to glucose(sugars) for energy. It can only store a certain amount in the cells to be used for energy, after that, the carbohydrates(sugars) are converted to triclycerides in the blood and then the excess to fat. Just a little food for thought(pun intended).
