For the last week, I have had severe back pain on my right side just below my rib cage. The pain seems to be shooting down to my lower back and a little bit on my front lower side. I had a Urinary Track Infection about 2 months ago. I don't think that it is back though because the pain is much different. The pain comes and goes. Some days I have it bad, some days not at all. It hurts to walk, breath and just sitting. Does anyone have any ideas as to what it might be?

Thanks

Hi,
I have had servere kidney problems for 4 or more years now! However i found that the pain was in my front and around the side rather than in my back, however back pain is a possible sign of a kidney problem and as you have had UTI before i suggest you check it out with your doctor! What sort of pain is it? for me the pain didn't go away even with the use of painkillers, and was so bad i couldn't bend or walk, sounds like you may feel the same! Antibiotics can really help though, and you may find that it clears up and all will be ok! Hope you feel better soon :-)and hope i've helped!

I have had the same pains as you described. my doctor says that it was a kidney infection resulting from a UTI, or at least that is what she is guessing. Anyways they put me on cipro, a med to help with the infection and after a few days the pain was gone. Mine was exactly the same though coming and going on my back, I thought it was just a backache...boy was I wrong. Good luck.
