Hi all,
I have been dealing with a 8mm kidney stone since Feb. My doctor has tried several things including 2 yes 2 Litotripsy's. they did nothing the stone did not budge or even crack at all. It was lodged in my right kidney. Anyway, I has a uteroscopy Laser Litho this morning. Well that was my biggest fear becuse I had to be put to sleep and that is my biggest fear in life. Affraid of no waking up. Well needless to say i made it through and he turned the stone to dust all but the piece he took to analyze. Anyway my problem now is he put a stint in and it is causing a lot of pain and discomfort. I hear this is usualy the case. I also hear it hurts to get it out.Has anyone had this procedure? I would love to hear some advice or hear some eleses stories. Thanks, Stephanie

My boyfriend had a stent in place for about five days as part of his recovery from lithotrypsi. Having the stent in place as a hassle and did hurt for a while. The biggest problem was keeping the string from getting tugged while dressing and getting out of bed. Now to your question about removal. He said (and mind you his anatomy is different ), that the removal was quick and didn't hurt very much. But once it's out you feel much better. There is a slight sting during the first couple urinations afterwards, but he said it went away quickly. Good luck and he said to go drink a BIG glass of water right now

I had a stent in for just over 2 weeks. It was very uncomfortable especially the first couple of hours each morning. I also worried a lot about getting it removed since my urologist wasn’t available and a regular surgeon (who had never removed one before) removed it. It took a couple of seconds to remove it, I was petrified and I said “ouch” and he said “done” at the same time. . That was it, really. For about 24 hours afterwards a bit of a burning sensation (less discomfort than while it was in place) that was it I felt totally normal again. Karon

I had a stent for about 2 weeks after surgery to remove a stone and, other than the first couple of days, I had very few problems with it.

I felt no pain when it was removed either but I agree with the others who experienced discomfort when urinating for about a day or so after the removal.

Good luck
GG

I have had lithotrypsy 4 times, with a stint each time. My bigest complaint is the pain while urinating. Removal of the stint is easy and almost painless (my wife did it one time). However, Be very aware of your general health and, in particular, your temperature. After my last lithotrypsy I had a urinary tract infection that sent me to the emergency room on Christmas Eve. After some research, I have no doubt that I got the infection from the stint.

I have had a couple of stents before, but they weren't because of kidney stones. When I had it in, it caused frequency/urgency when I went to the bathroom, and I often had blood in my urine. It also hurt when I did strenuous exercise. When I got them out, it was done by general anesthesia, which was not bad at all. A bit sore "down there" for a few days, but that's all. Good luck!
