Any recommendations for a short term detoxification/ cleansing diet?

Specifically, my mother and I would like something:
a. disciplined, to give us a swift kick in the rear for the start of a healthier living regimen.
b. palatable, perhaps progressive so it’s not impossible to maintain. For example, if it involves fasting or beet juice (yuk) we could do that for only 1-2 days and then transition to something more satisfying. But if it had broader choices we could do it for 5 days, a week, or two.
c. cleansing, but not depleting. A comprehensive approach which addresses energy level and balance.

Our physical concerns that led us to the idea of such a diet include:
a. distended stomach (bloating). This is the main reason my mom wants a program. She doesn’t know what’s causing it and could really use help in combating it. She’s very motivated to purge and cleanse her body.
b. general fatigue
c. weight gain (20 pounds each) in last year...would like to reverse trend and get more physically fit.

Things that have helped me in the past:
a. water, ‘nuff said.
b. elimination of wheat products (rice and corn instead) has helped me with heart burn, extreme nausea, and constipation. (sorry for specificity)

Based on this information, what are your recommendations? Please be specific if there’s a program name you know of, or recipes, or rules. If you know of something NOT to do, please tell me, too. Thank you, and (in advance) I appreciate your help.

I’m posting this message on several healthboards forums, so I can get plenty of input and because it doesn’t quite fit tidily in one classification...alternative medicine, bowel disorders, diet and nutrition, digestive disorders, irritable bowel syndrome, weight loss. Sorry for the redundancy.

Hi,
I'm not super knowledgeable on this topic but I have heard that drinking lemon water every morning works great to help detoxify the body and break down "heavy" foods, which in turn helps the digestive process. You just take lemon juice, store bought or freshly squeezed, and add about 10-15 drops to some water. You are definitely on the right track by reducing your consumption of wheat products, and increasing the amount of green vegetables that you eat will also help to detoxify. Hope this helps

Hi,

You could add live yogurt or acidophilis caps to this to help with the bloated stomach. This should help, as it puts back the good bacteria into the gut.

Lemon juice is good for cleansing and there are some herbal products that are good for liver and other cleanses, but you would probably need to go to a herbalist for this.

Anyway, what your Mum is doing sounds good though.

Dr. Clark has a way to do an entire cleanse of your body. You can actually get all the info on the internet without even buying her book. She tells how to do a liver cleanse and a kidney cleanse. The liver cleanse is the best thing you can ever do for your body because you have a ton of garbage in your body and you probably didn't even know it. I'm a 25 year old male, never did drugs and I drink very little alcohol, I'm in fairly good shape, I'm not overweight, and I cleansed my liver and got out about 40 gallstones. 10 of them were about the width of an eraser on a pencil, the rest were like small beads. She says you can get out about 2,000 of them, so I'll be going back for more in a month or so.
Her program is very intense, but she has it down to a science. She shows you how to rid your body of parasites, get out gallstones, cleanse your liver, and cleanse your kidneys. Since these are the filters for your entire body, you will have noticable improvments to your health, especially in digestion. It's amazing what she has to offer. Some of it sounds off the wall because it's so out of the ordinary, but believe me, what I have done so far has proven that she knows what she is talking about.

You did not pass gallstones. You would have experienced the most intense pain a person could endure. Real gallstones are composed of crystallized minerals with razor sharp edges. Several sources, including the prominent naturopathic doctors Michael Murray and Joseph Pizzorno, said that the "gallstones" typically passed during the liver flush are not really gallstones but are produced within the digestive tract from the ingredients of the flush.

Start with 1 tsp flax seed 3x a day. If you are over 150 lbs add 1tsp for every 50 lbs.

Next week add 1 tablespoon whole psyllium husks 1 x a day (2-4 in the afternoon is best) Mix in water and drink. follow with 8 oz of water. If you are over 200 lbs then 1/2 tablesspoon for every 50 lbs.

Flax seed an Psyllium husks have different clense actions. You need both.

Sprinkle the seed on ceral, salad, toast, soup, yogurt just before eating.

Eat fruits and vegetables.

Avoid sugar, white flour, milk unless sour.

Avoid red meat unless it is range fed beef then eat modertly. Eggs are ok if you use real eggs. Store eggs are not what I call real eggs. REAL eggs have happy hens and roosters and are allowed to range feed.

Cleansing is a long progress. Don't give up. You will feel better and look better.
