Hi all,

Recently I have noticed my testicles seem noticeably larger than before. One doesn't seem significantly larger than the other but they both overall seem larger. I don't feel any obvious lumps on either. Should I be concerned? Could this be a sign of testicular cancer? I don't really have any pain or uncomfortable feeling down there.

One thing to mention I had a possible risky sexual encounter with a female in which I was concerned enough to get an HIV test for. It was negative but I have not had any other STD tests. Could I have an STD? Is it possible I have some form of infection. I am more scared of cancer than anything else here.

Scared,
DD

Doesn't sound like cancer at all. I'd suggest just keeping an eye on things, if you're still worried you should check with your doc.

Can you tell if its the testicles themselves that have enlarged, or is it the tubes, etc. around the testicles in the scrotum that have enlarged?

It seems the testicles are larger than they where before. Also one doesn't seen significantly larger than the other. I also don't detect any lumps on the sides when I check them.

Hmm, not sure then. I think there is a thyroid and/or pituitary gland condition that can cause enlargement of the testicles due to hormonal changes. I think its called hypogonadism, but I'm not sure. Basically your testicles keep growing as they did during puberty because one of the growth hormones is out of balance or present when it shouldn't be. The thyroid and pituitary controls most of that. Keep an eye on the testicles, and maybe take measurements now so you have a reference. If they keep getting larger, visit a doctor and tell him/her what's been going on, and they may prescribe some thyroid tests.

Hi Focus,

Thanks for your replies thus far. I am really concerned about this. It seems again they are both bigger with the one on the right larger than the one on the left. Generally with testicular cancer can both testicles enlarge and also is it generally common to feel a lump one one opposed to a swollen smooth testicle? Should I be concerned? Should I go the doctor?

Thanks,
DD

Can i ask how old you are?.As i feel that you may not of finnished puberty and men can still grow till there around 21.If you are of serious concern a Drs check over should not be debated as he has seen many naked guys and will see many more after seeing you.I can understand the embarrassment of seeing a dr for these reasons as i myself had problems with my testicals as well and needed to see professionals.A general check over by the dr is well better then having surgey to fix a problem that you let go too long.Im not trying to scare you here , but let him take a look and help clear your fears and start any treatment if required.

Hi again.........well yes you have finnished puberty and i know where your up too in life (im 29 myself). It appears on what you have described is a hormonal or gland change in your system.A simple blood check can give you a better insight into what the cause may be.Only thing i ment to ask before was : have you stop or started using any medications or drugs of any kind?.I dont think you have testical cancer as usually only one testical would grow and there would be a lump and /or a irregular shape there. But by all means dont let the fear hold you back......have some test done and let us know how you go.

There shouldn't be any firm or hard lumps on the testicle itself. Testicular cancer usually first shows up as a pea-sized hard lump on the surface of the testicle. The surface of the testicle should be smooth and firm in the shape of an oval. Any hard lumps indicate a problem that needs a doctor's visit ASAP. Remember that the tesicle has the epidydimus attached to it at the top and bottom, and running along the backside of each testicle. This will feel like a soft squishy lump or tubes that may be painful to the touch. That's normal.

Based on what you've said, I would go to the doctor to have it checked out, just to be safe. Its probably nothing, but testicular cancer is not something you want to mess with, and it is the most treatable of cancers if detected early. So why take the chance? You should have physical exams by a doctor once every 2 years anyway at your age.

awhile ago i noticed a slight bump on my left testicle, and i was very worried...i eventually went to my doctor and he told me it was nuthing more then a "burst spermadical seal" or something like that i dont remember the exact medical term, he said it was nuthing to worry about and that he also had one and that it should eventually go away...my visit to the doctor was awhile ago(about 6-8 months)and the lump is still present, though its not hard like a cancerous lump its more soft and kinda gives when i push it, but i still have sum worries eventhough he said its nuthing to worry about...ive never heard of this "spermadical seal burst" before and wondering if anyone in here has and is so how long do they take to go away, and any other info dealing with them would be greatly apreciated...thank you

Treesmoke - Where is the lump? I have something similar on the bottom of my lower left testicle. It feels like squishy material or fluid. It is only on the one side. I have had this all my life and thought it was normal until i asked a couple of my friends recently and they thought i was crazy. I went to the doctor and got an ultrasound and came back negative for cancer. The doc told me that it was enlarged veins. This may be the same thing. it is hard ot explain the feeling. Kind of gross, but it feels like some of the testicle on the bottom has broken off. Does this sound like anything you have?

Enlarged veins means a varicocele. I have two though one side is worse than the other. They used to ache now and then but I rarely get trouble now. You can get surgery to fix them but there is usually no need. They are fairly common but not normal. Sometimes they can effect fertility because the blood they store does not allow the testicle to cool as much as they should.

yea it sounds alot like what ive got...mine is also on the left testicle, and it feels squishy kinda like a blister or sumthing i dont know...like u said its hard to explain

im like 99% sure its a varicocele, when i went to the doctor he gave me sum medical term that ended with "seel", but i couldnt remember the term and im pretty sure that was it

ive never expiereinced pain in it though, and theres been no change in size or anything with the lump, its been the same since the 1st day i noticed it
