I am asking this for my sister-she is in menopause and has had a hard time with constipation once a month is this a symtom? Would it be of to much progestorone or estrogen during this time.

Constipation is probably due to her flucating hormones etc. She should increase her fiber intake by adding a supplement such as Metamucil, Citrucel or fibertabs as well as increasing her natural fiber. She also needs to increase her fluid intake especially water. She can also use prune juice and/or prunes on a routine basis along with the fiber supplement. This will all help.

I agree more fluids and fiber. I'm have a problem taking too much over the counter medicines so I go more for fiber like whole wheat bread and cereals.

Please someone, I need advice on this also. In the past 7 months, the bowels have slowed to a crawl. Metamucil used to help. I've increased my water. I am a shift worker. Just 2 of us at home so hard to get good meals. When I do go it's a small amount so it just keeps building, till I have pregnant belly, fluid congestion in my lower body, the stool sits on my bladder so that doesn't work so good, I ache all through that area. Doctor says, eat more fiber. Even prune juice is hit and miss. Any suggestions. One thing I did notice, I believe I had a gall bladder attack 7 months ago and around this time was when my bowels function changed. Would that attack have any long term effects on my bowels. Thanks

Shredded Wheat and Bran cereal is the best thing for me. If I don't have it at least three times a week I get constipated. I even take it with me when I am traveling!

This hasn't failed me yet.
For a fast natural fix eat:
1/2 c. Fiber One (by General Mills) cereal in the morning and 1/2 c. in the evening. I eat mine with fruit and milk on it, it isn't a wonderful delight, Ha!
Then during that day drink as much water as you can.
You should have results the next morning.
Good Luck,
Kathy
