I am a 41 year old female, mother of a 4 year old. Good health, low cholesterol, exercise daily, all of that. Lately at night I will wake up and my hand and foot on the same side will be tingling. It is not from sleeping wrong. Also, sometimes it is a "crawling" feeling. I just took a stress test for palpatations, and everything was ok. Could this be perimenopause? I get scared in the middle of the night when this tingling starts, and then the more I think about it, the worse it gets. Any ideas why I would be waking up with this? Does this sound familiar to anyone? Thanks..... IP: Logged |

I'm new to the board and I don't know if you're still having your symptoms, but I just posted a message about a problem similar to yours. I have tingling and creepy crawlies combines with small twitches in my calves and arms. It's really bad at night. Is this a menopausal thing or is it related to HRT? Have you learned anything more? Sorry to refer back to such an old post, but I wanted to tell you that I have the same symptoms and don't really know what's causing them. I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my hands and feet, mostly. But, I also get twitches in my right calf and muscle spasms in my right thigh, along with these fluttery type sensations. It's very annoying. I do have slight numbness and tingling in my hands and feet also and feel like my skin is on fire everywhere. I had bloodwork done for thyroid, Lupus, rheumatoid arthritis and the tests were negative. Since I'm menopausal, I'll just chalk this up to meno and hope that the symptoms will subside soon. I hope you're not still suffering too. Sue IP: Logged |

Greetings, I've also had tingling hands and feet along with burning and painful sensations in toes and fingers since perimenopause. I finally found a Gyn who says it can be due to meno and the imbalance in hormones. I am trying HRT in hopes of getting these symptoms resolved. Good luck to you all. I also found that there's a site for women with hysterectomies and they have similar sensations due to their lack of estrogen after their surgery...so IMHO it makes sense that we, too, at menopause could have these strange symptoms as a result of estrogen deficiency. Hope you get relief! Sunny [This message has been edited by sunny6 (edited 09-14-2003).] IP: Logged |

Hi sunny6: Have you started HRT to see if it helps with your joint pain? I'm having bad pain in my hands and feet and my Internist denies that joint pain could possibly be b/c of menopause. I'm still trying to find a good Dr. to determine if it's from arthritis, Fibromyalgia or whatever else. I hope you're feeling better. IP: Logged |

Hi SUnshine, My tingling and buzzing is not joint pain, it is more "excited" nerve pain, I believe due to neuroendocrine disruption as my hormone neurotransmitters are changed due to menopause shifts. I am now on bioidentical HRT and waiting for results. Did you have a bone density test done? Could it be that you are having some osteoporosis pains? If so, the doc will proabaly be able to treat that with supplements or replacements, if you desire to go that route. Good luck. Sunny IP: Logged |

Calcium. It's a lack of calcium. (BTW, I'm not a calcium salesman.) IP: Logged |

Hi sunny: As a matter of fact, I just had a bone density test today and everything was fine, thank God. Everyday, I have more joint pain than the previous day. I'm NOT good with pain and am seeing a Rheumatologist soon to rule out arthritis or other things. I've read so many times how joint pain is common at menopause, yet my Gyn. and internist look at me like I'm nuts when I bring it up!! My mother had arthritis, so it's possible that I have it too. I do take calcium, by the way. Today, my skin isn't burning and I don't notice much tingling and numbness. IP: Logged |

Hi Sunshine, I am happy to hear that your bone density is normal. We, as women, are so delightfully complex and there is no one simple solution for everyone, is there? It is so helpful to find an internist, GP, or Gyn who is comprehensive and caring in their recommendations. It seems more and more that the insightful docs are realizing that hormonal changes at menopause can influence every aspect of our bodies. Best wishes, Sunny IP: Logged |
