My child is 7 months old. She will only fall asleep if I hold her. Even after she is sleeping as soon as I put her down she wakes up and starts to cry. I've been trying to let her cry herself to sleep but she just gets more worked up. Last night she cried for 3 hours straight. As soon as I put her down she would start to cry again. If anyone could help me I am on my last leg. I don't know what to do. IP: Logged |

was she previously sleeping fine? maybe she is teething? has she been fussy any other time? could she have an ear infection? have you thought about bringing her to bed with you? (as long as your bed is safe and no one in bed is a smoker or under the influence of drugs/alcohol.) if she was sleeping fine before, it's most likely just a phase and it'll pass. good luck. See my problem is she will only sleep with me, I can't get her to sleep anywhere else. She has been teething for months now but she is only funny during the day. The doctor said she has an ear infection as well but it will heal on it's own in a couple of weeks. I hope this passes because I love her but sometimes I just don't like her IP: Logged |

My daughter had an ear infection and I couldnt lay her down either, I had to constantly hold her. The Dr said to try and keep her head elevated when I did lay her down and this worked for me. I put a couple of pillows under her matress where I would lay her head and she seemed to be more comfortable. Did your Dr give her some medicine for her ear ache? I wasnt sure in your post when the doc said it would go away on its own in a couple of weeks. My doc gave me medicine and her ear ache was better in less than 2 weeks. He didn't give me anything. He said if it didn't go away in two weeks he would then give me medication for her. My husband wants to go to the walk in clinic and get something for her. IP: Logged |

I think you definately should. I'm not a Dr, but I think they need the medication to heal the ear infection, and even if they dont (which I think they do) it will take the infection away alot quicker and probably makes her feel better to, so she might lay down for a couple of hours without you. I dont know though like I say I'm not a doctor, but my daughter was given medication the day they found out she had it. IP: Logged |

Thanks for your help. Last night she had to fall asleep in my arms, but I put a pillow under her mattress and she slept through the night. She slept the longest she has in a long time. I still don't like that I have to hold her to get her to sleep, but I'll take it one step at a time. It's nice to know that there is somewhere to go and ask people for help. Especially being a first time mother. Thanks again. [This message has been edited by Sherri-Lynne (edited 09-18-2003).] IP: Logged |

I used to have to rock my daughter to sleep every night, sick or not sick, but I loved to see her fall asleep in my arms and I found that when she was asleep I wouldnt want to lay her down and I would continue to hold her. Now she is 2 and never lets me rock her to sleep (I miss that), it may be inconvenient now, but you'll miss it when shes a little older. IP: Logged |

Don't be shy about rocking her to sleep..I know the popular method these days is not to do that with babies, but it is healthier for them. Comfort is never a bad thing, and there is no such thing as "spoiling" with too much love. IP: Logged |
