Saw my onocologist today, and he suggested a once yearly infusion (IV) of zoledronic acid aka Zometa for osteoporosis. It is a 15 minute IV and is supposed to be a super bone builder. I believe it is a bisphosphonate like Fosomax and the rest. That's scary! But he said it is in the system for only 36 hours. It has been approved here for building bones in cancer patient, but not yet FDA approved for osterporosis. One side effect could be kidney deterioration. What to do? Has anyone tried it?? Hi Jeannecar,i have also had cancer,Hodgkins Lymphoma and i am nearly 2 years post chemo,i have just found out that i have Osteoporosis of the spine due to treatments and i am about to go on a 2 year study which involves a once yearly IV infusion of Zolendronate along with daily doses of calcium and vitamin d.I don't know if this is the same drug you are on but it sounds similar as it is infused over a 15 minute period.Any feed back would be helpful. Thanks Keith. P.S i am in the UK. IP: Logged |

Keith, Haven't done the treatment yet, it scares me, there was a mention of a chance of kidney damage. Have you had the treatment? What side effects have you had? My daughter lives in London. Jeanne C IP: Logged |
