Just a thought here,...

People often talk about things like telling their kids that they're misbehaving, or telling them that their behavior is unaccepptable and then go on to tell them HOW they may behave,...or telling S/O's that a certain behavior is distasteful, not to do that, or how dare they,...etc.

But that's behavior modification.

I believe that has a place in life and relationships, I even teach it.

But when you try to change someone else's behavior (or your own) without understanding what that behavior was for,...why are the kids acting out, why is the husband not wanting to be with you, why do you do a certain thing,....

Well that "thing" represented something, was an outlet for feelings, and modifying the behavior only takes away a form of expression without addressing or correcting the underlying issues.
