Hi
Long time cutter - even longer time regretter. I still do cut occasionally - maybe like a couple times a month - but the primary reason I've stopped is because of the SCARS!!!! (some deep - some ugly)
Does anyone have any advice about getting rid of them -or fading them or something - 'cuase the sun is coming out and shorts and skirts are an ASSET that I just cannot afford to lose! The scares are everywhere I want them GONE....
Any creams or anything?

Kaitie

I too am a self injurer. I have always regreted the scars, especially the really deep ones. However, this has never been enough to get me to stop. I wish I could, and I'm working on it, but I sure would love to find a way to make the scars less obvious! Good luck, and sorry I don't have any advice for you.

UH, I only injure myself out of stupidity but I know that.... uh ah crap, its that stuff you use on tattoos and stuff when you first get them.

Sorry, Ill figure out what IM talking about and let you know. And please guys, dont hurt yourselves, its hurting me just to think about it. Its not worth it, you guys are all to good to let yourselves abuse yourselves. Take care and Ill find out what the stuff is... Polysporin!!!! Thats it. Im not sure about old wounds but for newer healing wounds and such it works wonders. Has helped cover up some rather stupid injuries on my part, ie: walking into an open ended pipe, slashing the hell outa my hand on barbed wire it works good

Take Care.

Hi Kaitie!

(Thank you for responding to my post on another board! )

I'll tell you what has helped me with various scars...good ol' cocoa butter! Not the kind you can get at just any ol' drug store, but the PURE stuff! I haven't seen any around where I live; I picked my little tube up on my last trip to Florida. Smells pretty yucky, but it has really faded a few scars and several little stretch marks. It's worth a try, if you can find it!

To make it WORSE, I decided to cover the scars with tons of bandaids (THEN my mom thought I had gotten a tatoo...) but anyways - it turns out I now have a NASTY rash - and as I found out from the doc yesterday - I'm severly allergic to bandaids - I've had rashes like that before but never as bad and I never put two and two together. THIS BATTLE NEVER ENDS - the plus side? Now the scars are covered in red dots!

I can relate to EVERYONE on this board - and it's good to finally have someone to talk to about this. Somehow being a self-injurer is kinda taboo - hush - hush - say no more...and it's good to have someone who doesn't think I'm a freak or whatever.

I used to go on a different board but for SOME reason they shut it down - this one is great anyways!

Cheers -
Kaitie

yeah go find a tree and cut it they wont mind

I honestly did not know people actually did things like this to themselves. It never actually occured to me, but if I can help even one person by coming in here and yapping away then I am glad I did.

I hope all you guys manage to stop hurting yourselves If I could go and help you all I would but unfortunately all I can do is try and make you feel better thius way

Take Care of yourself

Hawk - or Jason...
I don't know people did this to themselves either - until one day I just did it - weird eh.
So I remind you of your ex? Thats cool - or bad because you broke up with her - so that must mean - okay - I'm NOTHING like your ex....

Later, Kaitie

yes Hawk - I'm here too!!!! :-) I've been cutting for about three years and I havent cut since February 15th. since my scars are mostly on my wrists/lower arms I wear a lot of bangles and bead braclets constantly. The added benefit of which is they look cool too! :-) Since I'm a goth I can get away with huge thick black bands and stuff which cover up the scars pretty well. I've never tried creams or anything coz 98.9% of them are just pure gob****e; way too expensive and don't blimmin well work anyway!!! Keep itup guys! You're all doing so well!!! Lets all dance to celebrate!!!

I'm totally shocked that no one has mentioned Vitamin E!! It's been used for YEARS to minimize scars. Old scars, new scars, works great.

Just out of curiosity since I'm already posting, how old is everyone in here?

Piano - what do you do with the vitamin E(?) just eat it or rub it on or what - like what form is it in - I'm used to stuff like this in pills????

Also - I just turned 20 thirteen days ago - but I've been doing this since I was 17.

Well Niecsey I guess you're right! Sorry! I guess I was getting over you saying "cut your teddy", ha ha. A few months ago my dogs tore up my teddy bear that I got from my Grandma on my first XMas. So I was picturing him. Forgive me, I'm tired

Kaitie, the Vitamin E I'm (or we're) talking about is the pills you take. If you poke one with a needle, vitamin E goo comes out, right? Rub that into your scars like you would lotion, and leave it. Don't wash it off. Do it several times a day, for a few weeks and you'll definitely see your scars fade! Am I right Niecsey? Mmm hmm.

Piano

PS While your poking the pill with the needle, please DO NOT POKE YOURSELF WITH IT. It's just another scar you'll have to cover.

I have never found a cure for the scars.
Don't worry about what people will think, if you don't feel comfortable telling them the truth (obviously) tell them another story.
I don't want to tell you to lie, but you know. I used to work in a tough labour kind of job, I told people I burned myself on these hot racks we used to work with.
I find in healing, just take really good care of the cuts, clean them well and use neosporin or something along those lines to help with healing.

I have no cure for scars, but i do have a good "cover story" I am a veterinary technician, and I tell them a cat did it. (not that they look ANYTHING like cat scratches) Besides, It's really not any stranger's business to ask me! I am 30 years old and cut myself several times when i was 15-16. Now I wear it for the rest of my life....ah well......K

i tried vitamin E and neosporen for my scars but i suppose i didn't keep it up long enough. i'm hopeing the ones on my breasts and belly fade a bit over the years.
Yes i;ll have to stay away from needles completely myself. i have a thing for them i'm afraid.

hey

there is a type of surgery that you can get to remove the scars but i dont really remember the name of it, its some type of plastic surgery, not sure how many doctors really do it, but i have talked to someone about it and she said that the only way you can get teh surgery is if you have been free of cutting for at minium four years becasue it would be a waste to do the surgery if you are still making scars...kind of like an insurance policy, they get rid of the scars and in return you have to be done with cutting or else theres not point....

i will try to find out more about it if any one would like more info

take care

that is a wonderful policy for the surgery. i don't think i would ever get it unless i was certain i would never to damage myself on purpose again.
