My Mom who has PD complains of heaviness in her legs. Could some of you tell me how you would classify this symptom? Would you consider it to be part of rigidity or some other symptom?

If you have had the same feeling, could you also tell me what helped you improve this symptom?

Thanks as always!

Yes, I have weak legs most of the time and if it is getting worse I think of it as "off" time and I have gradually learned is taking the pills on an empty stomach, I get a much greater response to the drugs, in contrast to when I take the pills around meal time. Bruce

Thanks Bruce and Googy!

I am definitely going to try your suggestions out on Mom. Bruce taking Sinemet (I assume you are taking that) on an empty stomach - does it cause nausea for you?

Thanks again folks!

Hi,
Yes I have weak feeling in legs at times. It feels like I am trying to walk through thick mud. I also have terrible aches in arms and legs. I get relief from hot bath and massage. I hope your mom feels better soon.
Love, Mona

I have been having balance problems caused by what I call weak muscles in my legs. I also had a Hip replacement on my parkinson side. I now go to rehab for my balance problems and the leg stretching and various exercises are a tremendous help and I feel much better and stronger than before. By the way I am 69 yrs old.

Carrotcake, Yaking Sinemet on an empty stomach didn't bother me in the past, but I have begun to fill a little rotten occasionally. I just eat a couple of crackers and that seems to take care of the problem.

I forgot to say this the last time, but I think rigidity causes most of the weakness.

Take care. Bruce

Mona, walking through mud is exactly how Mum describes it too!

I got a massage therapist in for her yesterday, and she feels it gave her some relief, so I am going to the Massage Therapist in every week and hopefully it will make her feel better in the long run. She does not have an appointment until next month with her neurologist, so we will have to wait until then to change her Sinemet dosing if he recommends it.

Thanks again for the good info! This is a great board with a lot of support!
