Need a man's point of view....

My guy will be moving in with me in several weeks. He told me when we started dating that he was impotent, but as I found out later, 'impotent' doesn't mean 'never'. He has trouble maintaining an erection and has never been able to have an orgasm during sex, but he can have one after several hours of masturbation (he's also an insomniac). I can deal with the infrequency, but it disturbs me how upset he gets when he can't climax with me. He apologizes for it and sometimes get to the verge of tears because it hurts him emotionally not to be able to perform. Has anyone else felt this way, and how can I help him deal with this?
