You are essentially right, most of them are pretty much the same. I have found that it has a lot to do with personal taste.
Look at the serving sizes versus grams per serving and get more for your money. Also you need to look at your goals. Are you looking for low carbs etc. There are lots of them out there. Some are good and some are not so good.
I will mention a few that I have tried and liked (not selling here)
AST Research, Optimum Nutrition, Champion Nutrition, SCI-TEC Nutrition, Next Nutrition (Designer Protein) Beta Statin WPI meal replacement. These are all good brands in my opinion.
