The only thing you need to consider is that if you don't get a sufficient amount of nutrition, including fats, the body gives a starvation response. Starvation response holds onto your fat, because it contains energy, so the unfortunate effect is losing muscle. Instead, if you build on muscle, you can add an extra 50 calories per pound of muscle gained. I don't see a point of using such pills for any other reason than working out harder because you still need a sufficient amount of nutrition -- otherwise it's the starvation response.
