I have been on Atkins for one year. I have lost 90 pounds so far, and I am 10 pounds from my goal. I have had my blood tested for cholesterol, and my bad cholesterol is very low and my good cholesterol is very high. My doctor is delighted and says I should continue. To maintain my weight loss, I plan to continue to restrict carbs, just adding back enough to where I am no longer losing weight.
No one diet plan is right for everyone. Low fat dieting did not work for me, just like low carb dieting might not work for you. You need to be ready to make a commitment to change your eating habits for life. Going back to your old eating habits after you reach your goal weight will only lead to regaining the weight. And no matter what diet plan you choose, it's important to incorporate exercise. (I walk 3 miles a day and do aerobics when I can.)
