The low carb diet worked for me. A little over 2 years ago I weighed 220# when I started Dr. Atkins diet. Within about a year I was down to 180 or so and have been there ever since (I am a 6'0" tall male with moderate muscle mass and 33" waist). I live the low carb life now and will not return to eating those unhealthy carbs (sugars and starches) again. I feel better than I have ever felt. My most recent bloodwork shows near perfect in every catagory. I recently convinced my mom to go on the low carb diet also. She checked with her doctor and he said go for it. I have an uncle and aunt that I convinced one year ago to give the low carb diet a try and he is down 35# and she 25# and both said that their doctor approved, especially when their blood lipid profiles all showed significant improvement. And they also said that the constant heartburn and indigestion that they used to have has completely disappeared. I can't recall ever having heartburn since I switched to a low carb diet. Another good book or two to read, in addition to Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, is Protein Power and The Protein Power Lifeplan. These books explain the root cause behind most cases of obesity, heart disease, and a host of other ailments. The root cause being the western diet high in carbohydrates, and in particular sugars and starches in processed foods. Avoid these and you take a step in the right direction to a healthier life.
