: I had my stomach stapled about 15 months ago. It was the best decision I have ever made in my life. I am 25 now and have lost a total of 80lbs. I have my life back now. I am happy, I work, I am engaged to be married in December, and the only thing I regret about the procedure is that I waited so long to get it once I had all the info. It is the best tool to help you change your eating habits and start exercising. Now I go to the gym 3-4 times a week and love it. The best part was when I went to try on wedding dresses and the size 8 fit me. There are no words to describe my gratitude to the Dr's who performed this procedure. It has changed my life!!!

: : : I had my stomach stapled in 1981. This was the original procedure (before the mesh). I lose 123lbs and was very happy about NO EXERCISING, and still shedding a massive amount of weight. The eating was the most difficult to adjust to, but when I did, it was a breeze.
: : : BUT....back then there were no support groups to help the person. I kept the weight off for about five years, but it then started creeping back on.
: : : While I haven't regained the whole amount, it's just as hard now to loose weight as it was before the surgery.
: : : I didn't have problem one that is associated with the procedure. I had such success that I would do it all over again if I knew I would have the same
: : : results! Now I know what I did wrong, and the support groups are everywhere to help you.
: : : I RECCOMEND THE SURGERY TO ANYONE WHO HAS LIVED A LIFE OF MISERY BECAUSE THEY HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO LOSE WEIGHT. Make sure you have access to the support thing before you dive into this. Make sure you have a good surgeon...check everything
: : : out.
: : : Jeff, if you live anywhere near Lexington, see if Sid Hopkins is still practicing and if he is still doing the surgery. HE IS THE BEST!!!

: : : : : I would like to hear anything anyone has to say about the subject.

: : : : : I am researching to see if this voluntary surgery is for me.

: : : : I am just beginning to investigate this myself. I am 38 year old male and weigh about 400 lbs. I think they are trying new lazer methods now and performing some procedure call rouge n y. I think the old stapleing methods they used to use have been switched to this procedure. I am like you, I hate to walk in on my two feet and not walk out, however, my alternatives are bleak. I have tried everything. Pills, shakes. I lost 70 pounds in 3 months on the shakes but just gained it back and more. Also I am a heavy smoker, but when I quit I gain more weight. Please keep me advised of what you find. thanks, Jeff from Kentucky

: : Hi, I am also looking into this, my problem is I am only 20 and I have been told that because of my age they might not even consider me for it. If any one knows where I could call to find this out or if someone knows if this is true or not please let me know
: : Thanks

Hi everybody. Just wanted to take a couple minutes and tell my story. I have been heavy all my life. Top heavy, bottom heavy, all heavy. I have VBG done in April of '97. It was the best decision I ever made. In '97 I was 20. I was the youngest person my surgeon ever did VBG on. I live in Toronto so finding a doctor wasn't hard. I have YET to take any behaviour modification classes. Support groups are for the birds. I have my life back. I was 305lbs and in a matter of a year I lost about 115lbs. I have since GOTTEN PREGNANT with no problems and gained about 25 pounds. I was able to eat baskin robbins and lose 5 punds the next morning. THAT WAS THE BEST. I have not had my gallbladder out and the surgeon says that my gallbladder isn't even an issue. I have heard people getting bypass done with taking the intestine and making a pouch just above the stomach on the esophagus. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS, TOO BAD ALL THE CELEBS CHOSE THIS ONE. You do not want to have a surgery where they need to cut other organs or muscles. I would do the surgery again. Before my son was born, I looked great, felt great and for the first time felt sexy. This was very important not so much to my husband but to me. I loved going into any store and buying medium or large instead of xxxl. Because I was 20 when I had this surgery done I healed very very fast and had and still don't have any complications. As for vomiting..only once. Thats's cause I cheated and tried a grilled cheese on rye even a small bite came back up on me. That was the only time. Be prepared for a lifestyle change. It's alot easier for me at 20 then it would be for me at 40. Good luck to anyone who is intrested. E-mail me if you want to talk. ekerz@home.com
