I took hormones for 2 1/2 years, only had gradual weight gain, but had other problems so I quit them this past March. Have started using a progesterone cream, read about it in Dr. John Lee's book about menopause. (I think its called What Your Dr. Hasn't Told You About Menopause, or something similar). He has a website too.
There are a number of different companies that make this cream, I use it twice a day, 3 weeks out of the month. Feel tons better. All my symptoms (hot flashes, etc) got better after about 2 months on the cream. Its supposed to normalize everything so your body uses the estrogen it does still produce - which is not very much, and comes mostly from the fat cells around your middle - which explains why we are genetically programmed to gain weight in this area. You might try it though. Good luck.
