: I was wondering if its ok to eat fruits everyday on the low carbs diet, because they have natural sugars. Also, how many carbs is ok for one day? is cottage cheese and plain yogurt ok to have? I'm am dying to lose the last 15-20 pounds. Thanks for your help.

Most fruits are high in sugar (natural or otherwise) and will raise your insulin levels and block fat loss. If you still need to lose some weight, then cut out the fruit, or at least limit it to small quantities of low sugar fruits such as strawberries, blackberries, or raspberries. Once you get to the desired amount of bodyfat and get into a maintenance diet, then you can gradually increase the amount and type of fruits until you start to gain again.

Dr. Atkins recommends less than 20 gms of carbs/day in the 2 week induction phase. After that some people can increase to 30 to 40 gms/day and still lose, others can't and will have to remain on the more restricted carb level. Read the labels on those foods to determine the carbs. You can eat a small amount of cottage cheese, but most yogurt is very high in carbs, especially if it is fruit flavored - just read the labels. If it contains more than about 5-10 gms of carbohydrate per serving (and note how small the serving sizes typically are), then it is best avoided until you have lost the desired weight. Alan S.
