: I'm not sure whether I'm at the right message board, but here goes . . . .

: I started college last year and have gained the "freshman 15" that I swore I would never gain. Before that I had no problem controlling what / when I ate. Now I can't seem to stop. Even though I consciously know that I am not hungry, I still eat. As far as I can tell I am a compulsive overeater (the only thing that has kept me from turning those 15 lbs into 50 is the fact that I stay fairly active). I do relatively ok until someone puts food in front of my face. I turn into 'the girl who just can't say no'.

: For breakfast and lunch I'll be fine, even dinner sometimes, too. But no matter what time of day, if I get the opportunity to eat, regardless of how hungry I really am, I'll take advantage of it. I don't just mean to sieze the opportunity, I mean take total and embarressing advantage of it.

: If anyone can help, I would appreciate it immensely.

: Thanks,

: Sarah

Uhhh, what do you eat? If you eat mainly carbs with little protein at meals, then this might be part of the problem. More than likely, you are becoming somewhat insulin resistant as you get older and overload your body with carbohydrates. If you want more info, just do an internet search for words like "insulin" and/or "insulin resistance" and/or "Syndrom X" A good inexpensive book that explains what is happening with your metabolism is "Protein Power" by Dr. Eades. It's about $6.00 in paperback at any bookstore. I think their website is www.eatprotein.com Alan S.
