Satya Prakash, PhD, is a Professor of Human biological Chemistry and Genetics in the Sealy Center for Molecular Science at the University of Texas in Houston. He recently headed a team of scientists who discovered an enzyme named iota that specializes in helping DNA duplicate itself when there are damaged or missing pieces of the DNA spiral.
Dr. Prakash will be chatting in a special AUDIOCAST event on Friday, December 15, 2000, at 11 am PST (2 pm EST) on DNA Sciences page, dna(.)com. The topic of this event will be: DNA Damage and Disease: When Cell Division Goes Wrong.
Dr. Prakash will take us thorough basic cell biology, basic DNA duplication, what role the newly discovered enzyme iota plays in the DNA duplication process, how duplication errors occur, and how these errors cause disease.
