Roche Laboratories (who makes Accutane) has a website...I think I can remember a few statistics offhand. If I remember correctly, 80% of people stay clear on Accutane after one year. After two years, I think only 50% are still clear. They say the chances of a relapse are higher for people who are 16 and under, for people who don't take a high enough dose, and for "borderline" cases. (for example, people whose acne isn't really all that bad, so the dr isn't sure whether or not they are a good candidate for Accutane) That last one seems strange, but I guess Accutane works better for people with really severe cystic nodular acne. Also, I think the chance of a relapse is higher for women, and for people who habe acne on their back and chest. But ask your dermo. He/She will give you tons of info. There's this really great brochure they give you, too, that shows before and after pictures. It's amazing!

But try to keep your chin up. According to 17 Magazine, "7 out of 10" teens have a problem with acne. Personally, I've been on Accutane for about three weeks now. My skin is still the same (maybe a TINY bit better, knock on wood) but now my hair is falling out! (side effect from the Accutane, but more common in females, LUCKY YOU) And my skin is DEFINATELY less oily.

I would say, go for the Accutane. You only have to take it once a day, and I hate antibiotics because you know you have to take them forever (Accutane is only a 5 month course) and I hate all those smelly creams dermos give you, like Retin-A and Benzamycin.

So far, I have no side effects other than hair loss. No dry skin, no dry lips, nothing. It's been great.

Good luck with whatever you choose. I hope this helps!
