: : My 15 year old son had been taking adderall for about 2 months and grades improved considerably and also behavior. We switched to concerta just for convenience so he would not have to go to the school nurse or have to remember to take it with him on weekends. After hearing everyone talk about concerta, I am wondering if we did the right thing. Let me know.

: I am a 46 year old woman who was finally diagnosed with a "mixed" ADD/ADHD (I tested high on components of each), and tried Ritalin, but couldn't handle the abrupt "on" and "off" feelings, and was switched to Adderal about 3 months ago. I currently take 20 mg. twice a day. I have experienced no side effects and it is working well for me.

: Both of my kids (one is grown now) take ADD meds. My youngest daughter (she is 16), has always taken her daily dose of Ritalin at school and done it "illegally" other words..without involving the school nurse. This works much better for us. The school nurse was unreliable when we tried it that way. They simply take ONLY the pill they need with them each day and discreetly take it in the bathroom or during lunch. Maybe this idea would help.

We were running into the same trouble with the school nurse....she would not always be there when my son went to get his medication. My husband and I discussed the option of my son taking the medication with him to school but we decided against it. (1) We just did not want to break the rules at school. Our son already has a problem with following rules. (2) Our son just is not discreet enough.
He seems to be doing OK with Concerta except he is tired all the time. I am wondering if that could be because of the milligrams he is taking. When he was taking adderall, he was only on 5 mg. twice daily. When we switched to concerta, the doctor put him on 36mg daily. I am going to try to do more research on the dosage amount and how that affects a person.
