Hi Lynn, I am glad you found this message board. I have know about it for about 4-5 months. I frequently visit this area to see whats going on. Lynn I highly recommend you seeing a Rheumatologist. Don't play around with this disease or it can get worse. I have had RA for about 16-17 years and it started out in my mid twenties or so. At first I didn't realize what was going on. I had real bad pains and inflammation in my hips and shoulders at first. It was like they would move in and out of socket. I was a little scared since I didn't know what was going on. I finally saw a rheumatologist and he gave me a blood test that shows how positive you are with the disease. I was put on the gold injections at first but they last maybe 8-10 years at best. But they did work, though it takes a while for the effect to totally kick in. As of now I am on Methotrexate and Flurbiprofen. Don't let your family play on your mind. Your pains are for real. I also have depression and it seems that I got the two about the same time. Maybe coincidence, but anyway I have been battling both.
Recently I had surgery on my left foot to have bone removed and to straighten my toes. My RA is mainly in my hands and feet. My fingers are crooked, but I can still work. Will probably need surgery on both hands and other foot later. Lynn go ahead and make an appointment with the Arthritis Doctor, he or she may even prescribe some medication for your depression, although it would also be better to see a specialist in that field. Let us know what you decide to do. Write back and talk if you want. Good luck! Kevin B.
